Book Description

I-35 is the story of David, a loner in his late 20s from New York City who suffers from blackout migraines and has a penchant for painkillers. He wakes up one morning, freezing in the backseat of his car, 1,500 miles from home, with no idea how he got there. After hearing a horrifying voicemail, he embarks on a harrowing journey through America's heartland, searching for his estranged brother and his brother's wife, while attempting to piece together his own fractured memory. Along the road, David meets a cast of odd characters who become suspects in his clouded and paranoid mind. And just as the clues begin to add up, a chance encounter at a seedy Oklahoma diner leads him to Shawna--a beautiful girl, shrouded in mystery, who escorts him down a vertiginous path to the end of the I-35 highway...where a shocking truth is revealed.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I-35 is a nail-biter of a road novel that crosses into the darkest territories of the soul. Brett Selmont brings serious game to this riveting thriller, and it takes some turns you absolutely will not see coming. Buckle up!"

Jonathan Maberry, NYT's Bestselling author of the PINE DEEP TRILOGY, FIRE & ASH, ROT & RUIN and EXTINCTION MACHINE, multiple Bram Stoker winner

"The road novel has been the heart and soul of American fiction ever since Huck set off down the Mississippi with Jim. London, Steinbeck and Kerouac all wrote books with highways running through them. By venturing into horror and the supernatural, Selmont charts a new direction for this classic form. Rough, tough and more than a little profane, "I-35" takes the reader on a trip into madness and damnation. It's a bleak journey but you'll be glad to have gone along for the ride."
William Hjortsberg, NY Times Best Seller, author of Falling Angel (Angel Heart)

"Tough, incisive, tough, evocative, tough, adroit, tough. Selmont will take you on a genuinely gripping journey down a highway that will inspire you to lock your car as automatically as you buckle your seat belt. You've been waiting for this one. A nifty piece of work by a talented writer."
John Lutz, NY Times Best Seller, author of Single White Female

"I-35 has a great cult classic level storyline that I think needs to be shared. If you enjoy sex, drugs and violence, this is quite a journey and one you will be pleased as punch to be along the ride for."

HorrorNews.net, John Clements

"Selmont has created a dark, page turning thriller full of bizarre and unique characters that draw us further down the road to oblivion. He's a writer to keep on your radar."
SPIN Magazine, Malcolm Campbell

From the Author

The follow up and Book Two of my "Road Series" ROUTE 66 is now available for purchase.  I'm very excited about the release of ROUTE 66 as I truly feel that this is the best work I've done to date.  I-35 was tremendous and the critical acclaim has been amazing.  However, I believe my writing (like most of us) gets better with each book I finish.

Book Three of my "Road Series" I-95 should be available in October 2013!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great short-read for people who love horror novels November 14, 2011
Format:Paperback
Selmont has crafted a tale that is darker than any book out there, with an ending that will make you say "ah ha!" as suddenly everything falls into place. He is a skilled writer that makes "I-35' an easy and entertaining read. While there are parts that may drop your jaw, there are times when you cheer for David, no matter how evil his actions are.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hell of A Ride October 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was better than I expected. Sure, there are tons of great reviews already, but I had never heard of the author.

I am certainly glad I took a chance. I loved the story line, although half the time I had no idea where it might all be going. Selmont has a rich vocabulary, and he paints a most bleak portrait of the American mid-west.

The protagonist, David, was a sympathetic character - the story is told from his POV - but I admit I felt a little guilty for routing for him as his secrets began unfolding.

Not for the faint of heart.
I just started reading the sequel Route 66, and loving it so far as well.

I love finding a new and talented author, and can't wait to see what else he has in store.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bit Strange Twisting Road October 21, 2012
By NJM
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Being familiar with the northern portion of I-35 I looked forward to reading the book. The beginning situations in Minneapolis tended to be rather brutal. So. . .if a person is put off by stark brutalness the book may not be for you.

There are enough twists in the plot after leaving the 'northern climes' that a reader will find 'harrowing'. Since the written word requires 'mind pictures' there are some of the situations that I'd rather not visualize.

Interesting and unusual. The last twists of the book probably set up the series. It could set up some interesting reading for those that want to follow the character.

3.0 out of 5 stars dark and schizo July 19, 2013
By Russ
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a real nightmare oddity with a lot of colorful ugliness. The scenes are vivid, but the characters are sloppy and the dialog is wooden at best. If it's a series, then sorry, just one trip down this interstate is enough for me. It's not bad, but I'm glad I picked it up for free.

2.0 out of 5 stars I-35 (The Road Series) (Book One) December 29, 2013
By JZ
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I chose the book for the summary which sounded very interesting. The story was what I expected and more as it was a different concept. Then the Author began a poor excuse for sloppy porn which I did not even want to consider reading. To bad too, as the story and other content were very interesting. The sexual content sounded like something a 17 year old boy would write. I deleted it from my Kindle Fire.
