5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect mix of a young girl's dream with measured reality.
Wonderful photos! This book is an enchanting blend of the stuff that a young girl's dreams are made of and the real work that it takes to make them come true. Anyone with a dream, young or old, can benefit by experiencing the one so marvelously shared in this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Should have been called, "I am an Upper Class Dancer."
I suppose you HAVE to be well-off, these days to succeed in the art form everyone wants.

For all Eva's hard work, it was still off-putting to see how she has no comprehension that she has it better than most little girls who want to grow up to be dancers.

I guess I can't really expect a 13 year old to understand this. Yet, if the intent is to...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book was an uplifting experience for a grandmother., April 5, 1999
This review is from: I Am a Dancer (Young Dreamers) (Hardcover)
Jane Feldman has captured the essence of a young girl's dream. The storyline is faithful to the development of a dream. The photographs are truly beautiful. This is Central Park as we wish it would be. I am eagerly awaiting the publication of "I am a Rider". Future dreams may be "I am" an astronaut, a teacher, even a volunteer. The list is endless, and I expect to hear and see more of Jane Feldman.

I am a dancer and I absolutely loved this book! It had beautiful photography and really informs the reader about what an aspiring ballerina's life is really like. I have read it a few times and I never get tired of it. It just sparks my interest everytime. Even if you are not a dancer, this book will appeal to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, December 10, 2004
This review is from: I Am a Dancer (Young Dreamers) (Hardcover)
I Am a Dancer is a beautiful book. It follows a 13 year old aspiring ballerina who lives and studies in New York City. The book is mostly photos that show Eva's life as a student and a ballet dancer. It really is a neat look at what it's like growing up in ballet and being onstage, as well as the everyday hard work and dedication that ballet takes.

For all Eva's hard work, it was still off-putting to see how she has no comprehension that she has it better than most little girls who want to grow up to be dancers.

I guess I can't really expect a 13 year old to understand this. Yet, if the intent is to show little girls how to grow up to BE a dancer, the message in this book, for most girls, is, "It will NEVER happen to you." Most girls don't have diplomat dads and choreographer mothers and an apartment in New York right next door to School of American Ballet.

But they probably couldn't find a middle class success story. Ballet has come a long way form the time no respectable young woman would set foot on a stage!
