More About the Author
I grew up in rural Duplin County; North Carolina in the 40's and 50's leaving the farm immediately after graduation from high school.
I traveled northeastern North Carolina as a "traveling salesman" for over 30 years meeting many interesting people. Many traveled like me. Others owned restaurants or were employed by School Systems, Hospitals or served on church or club committees. Each had an interesting story to tell. Many were shared with me.
Writing a book about Jim Holt, allows me; though fictional, to share some of those adventures with my readers.
Like my character; Jim, I spent many hours traveling nineteen counties in northeastern North Carolina selling commercial foodservice equipment but ultimately would spend most nights in Williamston and Greenville. The Ross Motel and the Town and Country Restaurant in Williamston was my home away from home for years, then the new Holiday Inn became that second home for a couple of years before the expansion of my territory that included the addition of Pitt, Edgecombe, and Lenoir Counties.
The Holiday Inn in Greenville was my next home away from home until I stopped spending nights away in 1984.
Over the ensuing years I have written many accounts of my travels and last year decided it was time to write a novel using northeastern North Carolina as my setting and 50's 60's and 70's as my timeline.
There are many real people and places named in my novel but none of the main characters are real or meant to resemble any real person, living or dead. Jim, Mary Beth, Geri, Alice, Ronnie, Jennie, Taylor, and Laura are fictional and only figments of my imagination planted and entwined together into a geographical area I fondly refer to as the "Northeastern corner of North Carolina."
My next book; "I am Janie;" a romantic novel is in the final proofing stage and should be available through Createspace.com before the holidays. The timeline is the 80's and centers along the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Today, 49 years after I began my sales career; May 14, 1962; I still am involved in sales but restrict my customer base to hospitals, public school foodservice and an occasional church kitchen operating exclusively from my home located near Winterville, NC
My wife and I are very involved in our church; Red Oak Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Diana is my third wife. We met on the internet; fell in love and were married on November 2, 2007.
My hobbies are many and diverse encompassing woodworking, decoys, watercolors, pencil sketching, photography, ham radio, genealogy, and writing of course.
