5.0 out of 5 stars I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG!!!!, April 27, 2006

I happened upon the video about two weeks on VH 1 Soul...I sat there awe struck, immediately getting into the groove and message of the song. India.Arie is a special artist. I've got both of her other CD's and while I enjoy them, nothing on them grabbed my attention like this song did. She's so good, what she does is effortless. I don't usually buy a CD anymore right off, but when this one drops in June, I will be buying it the first day. I'm 46, old school to the bone and I get tired sometimes with a lot of the music of today. Thanks to India.Arie and other artists like her (Erykah, Jill, Musiq, Kem, the Roots, Common, Kanye) I can at least be "kinda hip to my daughters."

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome Back From India!, February 23, 2006
This review is from: I Am Not My Hair (Audio CD)
I'm Not My Hair is the song most hot I've ever heard off any India material about self respect and lovin' not how looks are but how's inside. Lovin' it so hard can't get enough must hear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real R&B With Substance, January 30, 2006
This review is from: I Am Not My Hair (Audio CD)
I LOVE this song. Not only can I jam to it, but the words are very strong and meaningful. One can listen to this song 50 years from now and it will still be inspirational to so many listeners. Never before have I been bobbing my head to a song while saying, "Yeah...That's right!...Tell it...Ain't that the truth!..." I'm so glad that Ms. India Arie is back. I've missed her voice and the soul that other artists wish they were blessed with. I can't wait until her new album comes out!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Cut ...............is SENSATIONAL, January 3, 2006

This review is from: I Am Not My Hair (Audio CD)
My favorite song ever by INDIA ARIE is "The Truth" from her second CD, but this one comes mighty close to dethroning it.

What a fabulous song! This woman is just so inventive and creative!! I can't believe it. This song carries so much meaning and emotion and truth. I just can't praise INDIA enough. She's so underrated and gets none of the media blow up she deserves.

I can't wait for the album to drop, and until then, I'm jamming to the powerful prose of the novelist Kola Boof, who to me is the India Arie of the book world. Her black love story "Flesh and the Devil" goes good with India's music and I wish my people could find both.

Blessings and love brothers and sisters.

4.0 out of 5 stars feeling this cut, May 1, 2006
This review is from: I Am Not My Hair (Audio CD)
India Arie for me has been a Artist that I like some of her stuff&then there are other tracks that just never jump off for me,but this cut is banging.I dig the message big time&it speaks to people judging people by there hair&thinking without knowing what the person is about. this song is very timely&speaks directly on a very important point.really good track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Introspective Song, January 18, 2006
This review is from: I Am Not My Hair (Audio CD)
I love India Arie as an artist, and truly, I admire her as a woman... she's so Earthy, I love earthy people. I can't even explain to you what I mean by earthy... just genuine, down to earth, sincere, unique, proud, embrassive of her skin... I just adore her spirit.. Sometimes I think it's silly when people say they love an artist or talk about how great the person is, when truly we don't KNOW these people... Instead we get to know what they present to us! There is a big difference. However, with India Arie... I must say out of all the artists, she is the only one I would actually put my money on being truly, truly sincerely exactly who I get the feeling she is... and that's just a true-to-soul down to earth and sincere person... No gimmicks, no games, no image, no nothing... And I know many other artists are as well, but again... she's the one I'd put my money on... This song, however, moving along... is so touching. Did she really have cancer? That's what it says in the song. Well, it doesn't matter. The song is deep, on many levels... and me, being natural, having an afro one day.. twists the next day.. then braided up into a mohawk if I feel like it.. braided at the top, afro in the back.. whatever I feel.. and I love the diversity in my style and the different things and vibes I can embrace.. some people ask me "When are u going to lock your hair?" or "What ARE you doing with it?" stuff like that, and hair is just a really big deal... and that's no so bad, because I love my hair... but like India says, I am NOT my Hair. Its crazy how we bond with our scalp... our strands.. and how it becomes an emotional part of our existance.. it's beautiful and it's sad at the same time... I love the song and I think it's a beautiful testiment... I'm ashamed to say that I don't have her 2nd CD, but I vow to purchase it :o)

5.0 out of 5 stars MY FAVORITE, February 23, 2006
This review is from: I Am Not My Hair (Audio CD)
India.Arie is truly a blessing. I have loved her ever since I first hear "Video" and I am going to be with her to the end. She is one of my fave artists and will be someone I will look back years and years from now and still listen to. My fave song of hers is "The Truth" and has been my theme song for what I want my man to be (and he is...gap and all lol). Everyone should have a lil India.Arie in their life...she is truly a joy to listen to and enlightens all. Thanks so much for another one, girl! You will never disappoint me.

5.0 out of 5 stars India.Arie......., August 23, 2007

First of all, I just love her name. It is beautiful. She is beautiful. Her music is truthful and honest and soothing. This particilar song is great beacuse it expresses to the listner, to look at the REAL person and not the outside trappings of "good hair vs. bad hair", real hair vs.weaves or wigs straight vs curly etc. It is the real person inside that counts. If we could get past all of judgements of one another, based on our superficial trappings of hair, clothes cars, houses etc.we would do a better job of being humans. Keep up the good work India.Arie.

She is Steveie Wonder for the next generation. I can't praise India.Arie or her music enough. She is so dynamic, melodic and pure. With today's perponderance of trash talking lyrics and negativity in music, she reminds us of the beauty that can be found within ourselves and in the world around us. Each song is a capsule of beauty waiting to be released to help us find our way.
