Let us make ourselves perfectly clear–both of David Frye’s classic, charting albums of RIchard Nixon impersonations are here on one low-priced two-CD set! Of course, Frye didn’t limit himself to imitating our man in the White House; alongside his uncanny Tricky Dick impressions are equally dead-on vocal likenesses of LBJ, Nelson Rockefeller, Wiliam F. Buckley, Spiro Agnew, Billy Graham, Hubert Humphrey, Truman Capote, Jimmy Stewart, Howard Cosell, George C. Scott and other early ‘70s luminaries. So, no matter which side of the aisle you sit on politically, you’ll find plenty to chortle at here if you lived through those surreal and occasionally silly times. And nobody, but nobody, ever did Nixon better than this guy!

There's a new double CD set of two classic David Frye LPs: "I am the President" (1970) and "Radio Free Nixon" (1971). For those who weren't there or have no background to history, these releases may mean nothing to you, but for me who is a fan of political humor and was a wee lad when these were released, these releases are gold. Frye was a zillion times funnier than Rich Little or any other Nixon parodist because of his scathing humor. If you can appreciate classic stuff like the Kennedy material of "The First Family" then by all means buy this set!

Great stuff from an interesting era. Hopefully a second set of CD's of Frye's other two Nixon LPs (Richard Nixon Superstar and Richard Nixon: A Fantasy) will soon be produced for sale. Better yet, hopefully a DVD collection of Frye's classic appearances on The Tonight Show and Dick Cavett will someday be produced.

Comedy satire of the Nixon presidency, made in the time before that presidency became just _too_ strange and didn't need satirists any more. David Frye had gained fame on the Smothers Brothers hour and other TV shows with his dead-on Nixon voice and biting wit (much more biting than Rich Little). Very funny, and a time capsule to boot, as Frye nails down a whole boatload of early-70s political and pop culture voices on these two LPs. I give "I Am the President" 4 1/2 stars, "Radio Free Nixon" maybe 3 1/2. Together they are not quite the classic that is Vaughn Meader's "The First Family" (the album that created the genre), but a fun look back at a crazy time.
