5.0 out of 5 stars Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction - 'I Am Rock' (Abstract Sounds), January 9, 2008
This review is from: I Am Rock (Audio CD)
Whoa! Where has this metal band been hiding all these years? Last I heard from Zodiac Mindwarp was their 'Tattooed Beat Messiah' album. Guess I have a lot of catching up to do, no doubt. This disc R-O-C-K-S!! Tunes that had me nearly holding on for dear life was the full-throttled opening title cut "I Am Rock", the Iggy & The Stooges-like "Shake", "The King Of Love", the in-your-face "F**ked By Rock", the guitar-heavy "Devil Drive" and "Call Me Baby. A great under-appreciated '90's metal band that fans of Guns 'N Roses, Alice Cooper, The Almightly, Buckethead and AC/DC might want to tuck away a copy of this CD in their back pocket. Too good to be over-looked. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Zodiac Mindwarp returns in force, October 27, 2004

If you are like me and were just blown away by their debut album, entranced by the much-needed sexist escape they provided, then you will not be disappointed with this, their long overdue return to form. It plays like it could be their 2nd album.
The sound -far from being overpolished--is actually more raw than 'Messiah'. It is a wonderful disc, full of Zodiac's creative genius and trademark chauvenism. The heavy guitars of Cobalt Stargazer are again the perfect soundtrack for Zody's astral spewings about life on planet Earth. Don't miss this one. Crank it.

Zodiac Mindwarp, I always thought, was a more accessible Captain Beefheart but, here, his voice also recalls Iggy's recent
crooning. The band rocks on behind him like Angus Young & Company. High points: "[Loved] by rock" and the X rated Dr. Suess
of "20,000 women" (sleezier than anything by GG Allin or the Mentors ever did!). Although as great in it's own way, this album sounds nothing like the '88 classic "Tattoo Beat messiah".

5.0 out of 5 stars ZM&TLR are back with a vengeance....., November 15, 2002
This review is from: I Am Rock (Audio CD)
It's twenty five years since Elvis left this building for one with better wallpaper, and he must have got himself all shook up, and shuffled through the airspace over London town to sprinkle some spangle dust on Zodiac Mindwarp and The Love Reaction's production of I AM ROCK.

It's ...all good...my friend. Have you seen that advert for shoes that's on at the moment, with a little kid in purple boots going mental bouncing on the bed? That was me, listening to this for the first time.

Good old Zody, he knows what it means to have a bad day. The title track will give you that bit of a guitar charged shouty catharsis you need at such moments. Listening to this reminds me of a friend of mine, who once philosophised whilst sliding down the stairs headfirst after a bottle of Jack's - 'It's just that ole Rock and roll lifestyle, giving me the blues''

After many alterations to the dance card, I have decided Hurricane is the best track. It's Z at his 60 Marlboro Reds a day filthy boy best, the baddest daddio on the planet is coming at YOU on a seething tsunami of atmospheric pressure. He'll get your drawers in a twister sister, so brace yourself and hang onto something that's nailed down. Devil Drives is my second runner up - Beyoncé beware, your body is not too Bootylicious - he is ready for your jelly'

I AM ROCK is not going to be hanging around on the shelves for long, so get hold of one sharpish...
