Oprah did a piece on Tom Shadyac's I Am which I was immediately interested in. I purchased this DVD thinking it was one in the same, but it clearly was not. This I Am was poorly scripted, poorly acted and, frankly not particularly relatable. I do applaud the effort to begin a dialog regarding this topic and hope it gets people thinking about their lives.

This movie got some press in the newspapers because it was released in 2000+ churches that showed it for free instead of charging people to go to the theater to see it. It was a nice concept. I read some good reviews about it online so my husband and I went to a screening. We left after about 20 minutes because the acoustics were so terrible we could only understand some of the words. A couple of weeks later we rented it from Blockbuster.
The idea of framing the 10 Commandments in modern scenarios is good. But this film has a highly improbable plot and the characters are one dimensional. It would have been a better film if the writer had tried to incorporate ways that we use and/or abuse the Commandments in our daily lives. We waded through the whole film expecting some sort of epiphany or event that would inspire the characters to come clean and rethink their behavior. Instead, they all just decided to make the change after talking things over with their consciences. This results in a very thin plot.
If you're considering buying this movie, I would recommend renting it first to see if you really want to add it to your library.

I Am is God's name for Himself to Moses from the burning bush and Jesus' name for Himself as God. This exciting, contemporary movie shows people mostly breaking, and occasionally living, the Ten Commandments. Characters make their decisions and affect unknown others. As individuals either struggle with their moral choices, or smugly choose what is best for themselves, they are challenged to look at the truth, and to see how their choices will affect others and themselves. Even when characters choose selfishly, they are reminded that they have second chances to do the right thing.

I admire the complex, intertwined story line, the videography and editing (especially helicopter shots of LA, speeded up special effects, and underwater viewpoints), and some of the musical score. Director John Ward plays an ambitious yet endearing prosecuting attorney in Los Angeles well. Tomas Boykin richly peforms as X with a strong, peaceful voice of truth and dignity. Jay Hindle convincingly plays a billionaire with a superior sense of entitlement.

I recommend this movie.

The quality of the film is good. It looks like you would expect a movie to look like these days. The plot however was fairly obvious; it's likened to the plot line of the movie "Crash" where people are related based on a series of events both past and present. The movie started out by relating to events that was 1 year earlier so It's understandable that the main protagonist was reflecting. However as the other characters started reflecting also (i.e. within the reflection of the main protagonist) it was very hard to keep track of what was present day and what was in the past, and past past. Character development was terrible, and some of the acting seemed unnatural. I should have lowered my expectations before looking at the film, however so this review is most likely biased. Perhaps watching too many secular films has sullied my option.

I AM is not a bad movie per sey. I've seen several so called Christian movies such as those hideous Pastor Jones movies that are risque to say the least and other "B" type black Christian films. The other such as Faith Like Potaoes, FAcing the Giants, Fire Proof and those calibar movies are bmore up scale with good actors. I said all that to say that I AM fall in between. If you don't pay attention to the story, you'll miss it because there is a lot of retrospection & soul searching. At the end of the day, I thought of it as a pretty good movie and not so churchy that non christians can enjoy it and not feel condemned. Great for movie night with fam, friends, or church fam....

I have seen many "Christian" films and usually I am very disappointed. I Am is not a typical Christian film. It's a film I could and will show my friends who are not Christian. Engaging and entertaining, with many great insights into God and his people.

This film is a must see for anyone struggling with the Ten Commandments in today's society. Even though I found it hard to follow in some places as the scenes switched between characters, the message came through loud and clear. Maybe it was because I felt convicted, but I don't believe that is the reason it hit home. I recommend that this film be shared with friends who are not believers, but feel that all they have to do to be saved is be a "good" person. John Ward and Todd Zeile have found new careers.

I RENTED THIS MOVIE FROM "RENT-24 HR ON DEMAND" AND WAS READY TO SHUT IT OFF WITHIN A FEW MINUTES BUT I WATCHED ABOUT 45 MINS OF IT (TO GIVE IT A SECOND CHANCE). I found this movie way too preachy to be a "storytelling" venture. The script seemed WEEKLY-TV-series type drama. There is little for the audience to interpret; the interpretation has already been done and the purpose and point of the movie is already known and outlined. I thought the acting was soap-opera like the script.

I did not enjoy this movie at all.
And, I didn't like the too-dark download and the bad audio.
I will approach Amazon for a refund.
