Contemporary-Thought Provoking/Evoking Music,
This review is from: I Am Undone (Audio CD)
Although this music is targeted to a contemporary emo-rock audience, the lyrics and varied style on this CD spans many music genres. It has beautiful evoking ballads as well as punctuating rock. It's lyrics are phenomenally constructed to provoke thought and response. I love this CD and recommend it to all age groups who want a contemporary sound that reaches the heart.

with a plethora of indie rock bands saturating the market these days, it can be difficult to find a band that is refreshingly original both musically, vocally and lyrically. well people, i am happy to say that My Epic stands out in all three of these areas.
perhaps the most amazing thing about this band is that it is a three-piece. they produce such a large sound that you'd figure there must be at least five members - but three? these dudes are talented. lyrically, my epic shines as extraordinary. their lyrics are powerfully spiritual and thought-provoking, not to mention that they draw influence from C.S. Lewis [one of my all-time favorite authors.] the vocals on this album are also awesome. the frontman - i forget his name - can belt it out with the rest of 'em without sounding whiny or overly emo. overall, i was very impressed with this album. so much so that i went ahead and preordered their next album, Yet, which is coming out july 6th. and from what i've heard of THAT record, it promises to be twice as good as this one...

Some of the deepest and most thoughtful lyrics I have heard for a long time. Wonderful music. Not everyone likes the vocals, so it is recommended to preview before buying.

My Epic's debut full length, I Am Undone, is an amazing effort from a relatively new up and coming band. I'm not really sure how to describe it in terms of genre, but indie rock is probably the genre it fits best. It sounds a bit like As Cities Burn's Come Now Sleep, but slower at times, and has more atmosphere. The guitar tone is beautiful and the riffs and lines are woven perfectly into the music. Violins, keys, and synth are occasionally used, all to enhance the beautiful atmosphere and harmony in the songs. The vocals are also done very well. They are highly emotive and create a contemplative atmosphere on some songs, while on others a very sad or urgent effect. Lyrically, My Epic explores deep Christian themes almost exclusively, like pride, the problem of pain, and the incomprehensibility of God (C.S. Lewis was a major influence). The instrumental track, 'Perelandra', is even named after a book by Lewis. The lyrical themes are incredibly thought provoking and mirror struggles I have experienced in my own life.
In summary... Go out and buy this album. At least stream/download it and give it a shot. If you are an indie rock fan, or a fan of music, I believe you will love what you hear. Some songs took a while to grow on me but they are all excellent. Top tracks: The whole album... |
