This is a GREAT Mary J. song! I love it! It's one of those songs where you just want to push repeat over and over again. Download this song! You won't regret it!

Over the years Mary J. Blige has needed to prove less and less because of the quality of her music. She was so great in the 90's that looking back to those days can bring instant bliss (think 'I Can Love You' feat. Lil' Kim or even 'Love Is All We Need' feat. Nas). These days Mary is riding the trends though. What's the outcome? A song like 'I Am' which is pleasantly growing on me, but isn't the classic Mary we've come to know and enjoy. So for once, I'm going to agree with Michael Kerner on this one. It is growing on me sort of so it's not a complete waste, but it could be better. She did sing the hell out of the song on Ellen though. 3.25 stars.

Are You Mary?,

When it has came down to R&B acts lately, there are very few that honestly that have came out with record completely worth their effort. For Mary J. Blige's latest single, I Am, the latest single from her 2009 album Stronger With Each Tear, shows more of an adult Mary, trying to deliver a simple ballad. Sadly, it just isn't one of Mary's best songs that delivers with her classics from her 90's era, or with her 2005 record, The Breakthrough. I really was hoping Mary would deliver a deeper ballad, but that wasn't here. It just doesn't click the way Be Without You showed. Hopefully, her next single from the record can be stronger with each note.
