It's very cool.

His vocals sound quite improved and different from his time in Gorgoroth.

As a fan of Gorgoroth, especially their output with Gaahl and King Ov Hell, I was really excited for this release. It does not disappoint! The songwriting style does not greatly differ from Gorgoroth, but the approach certainly does. One of the great standout point of this album is the keyboard parts, played by Geir Bratland. Normally keyboards and synths in black metal tend to either be symphonic sounding or have a creepy gothic organ sound to them. On "I Begin" I'd say at times the keys and synths have further reaching sounds more akin to the types of sounds you would find in things like kraut-rock, psychedelic rock and even post-punk. It's very cool. Fear not, though! There are blast beats, loud and hectic black metal guitars and all the things you would also come to expect from 2 former members of Gorgoroth. This is a black metal record, it jsut happens to be one that takes chances in all the right ways and comes out all the better for it. Gaahl's vocals are the best I've ever heard them sound on this release. Crank this up and praise Satan!

After the disappointing Gorgoroth fallout in October 2007 (and the subsequent legal battles and disgrace), I thought it would be next to never before I heard King and Gaahl join forces again. But, here we are with a record put out just 5 years later, and the duo are showing that the sound they created for their era of Gorgoroth, is truly THEIR sound. Some of you are familiar with the "Underworld Regime" album released by black metal super group, Ov Hell. Well that set the stage for what was the eventual return of God Seed, which was the original plan for King and Gaahl after Gorgoroth. Gaahl retired from music for a while, intending it to be permanent; so King moved on with Ov Hell instead of God Seed. With Shagrath, Frost, Ice Dale, and Teloch on board, Ov Hell was what many believed to be the next major band in black metal. Those plans fell through, obviously, due to the conflicting schedules of the members. Shagrath has Dimmu Borgir and Chrome Division, Frost has Satyricon etc. Thankfully, Gaahl chose to return!

Now that you know the short version of this band's rise, let me tell you how I feel about this record. I think that in all honesty, "I Begin" is what would have been Gorgoroth's best album. I say that with all the respect in the World for Infernus, and the legacy he has created with his band. BUT, I think Gaahl is a much better vocalist than Hat, Pest, or Atteringer. I think Gaahl is one of the best vocalists in the entire history of black metal. He is THAT good, in MY opinion. I also believe that King is a better song writer than Infernus. Again, with all due respect to Infernus, who is a true legend in his own right.

After the disapointment of the,"Ov Hell" project and the retirement of gaahl i thought God Seed was dead.
Thank fully ghaal was brought back to his senses and join forces with king to give birth to, " I Begin.
Every song on this albumb send chills up my spine minus one, I have seen critisism on youtube for the Alt Liv video saying its not black metal and all i can say is BM doesn't have to sound like s*** prodcuction to be bm. Yes Alt Liv is not a face rippnig pace and ghaal sings but i think it makes it more sinister. Almost all the other tracks sound just as vicious as the last two albumbs of gaahl and king put out .
This was well worth the wait and a very nice surprise to see gaahl was talked back to where he belongs

Gaahl sure came back to the metal world with a vengeance. His vocals sound quite improved and different from his time in Gorgoroth. Another thing that makes this album special is Geir Bratland's keyboards, its takes the music to another level. I am glad that God Seed is back and hope to hear more from them.

For starters Im very happy to see these guys back together making new music. King Ov Hell and Gahl are a great team and their band God Seed in a very good testament to that. Im happy with Gorgoroth with or without them as Infernus is the driving force of that band but God Seed is a truly awesome Black Metal beast in their own right. The album from start to finish really impressed me and im super happy Gahl is back with those killer vocals. Can't wait to hear more new music from these guys, great purchase very happy. Also check out Live At Wacken, it's a great live show.

Maybe not blessed with a true single of the strength of a Carving a Giant, but a solid work throughout regardless.
