DOA, obviously, and ABC pulled the plug immediately.

In the vein of some of Stephen King's best work, Happy Town tells the tale of the return of a local urban legend: The Magic Man.

An interesting plot, fine acting, and ABC-TV series budgets, help make this a great series.

... Doomed from the start by ABC. Instead of waiting for the "summer season," ABC ran this against the last two episodes of powerhouse shows on other networks heading into their season finales. DOA, obviously, and ABC pulled the plug immediately. Gee, what a surprise. To add insult to injury, ABC didn't even bother to air the last two episodes of Happy Town on TV, replacing it with reruns of Castle.

Oh, well, nevermind. Against all odds, Happy Town did manage to gain a following. It's all about the mystery of the "Magic Man" who abducted young girls years ago, and now seems to be back. Are the girls dead or alive? And, let's face it, the whole town is quirky. There's a coven of women who meet for tea, all infatuated with the new man at the boarding house (Sam Neill), and one is not allowed to climb the stairs into the attic, and the whole town smells like bread because of the bread factory, but then ... well ... something is discovered in the bread, and the murder you see in the first episode is sort of funny because the guy "needed that like a hole in the head," and I enjoyed every episode.

Did they finally use the song "Magic Man" by Heart in the show? Yes. Do you learn who the "Magic Man" is? Watch and see. My take was wanting more of this excellent show!

I just happened to come across this show. I had never heard of it before until it popped up in my search. I bought the whole season and I really liked this show. It has a lot of twists and turns and it keeps me in suspense. The show's is based around a character called the "Magic Man". The people that live in the town suspect that the magic man is commiting crimes. The magic man "an ability that bordered on the mystical." For more information about Happy Town go to: [...].

I was so excited when I found this on amazon the other day. I started watching this on ABC 2years ago when it premiered. ABC took it off and on so many times it was hard for ppl to find it to watch. I finally got to watch all the episodes. It was a very good series. Too bad ABC did not give it a chance If you liked Twin Peaks or Haven or any sci-fi mysteries type shows you will Love HappyTown

Admittedly, I've been a fan of the creators since watching Scott Rosenberg's Beautiful Girls many years ago. His October Road series furthered the nostalgia of childhood friendships and small town commitments while introducing a group of unique characters. With Happy Town, we're treated to the return of several actors from the October Road series--now in different roles. The series assembles a strong ensemble of familiar faces, character actors and true talents and infuses the group with remarkable new talents. In the vein of some of Stephen King's best work, Happy Town tells the tale of the return of a local urban legend: The Magic Man. Loyalties are tested, truths debunked and faith tested without ever losing the charming allure of its setting or characters. It's a tragedy the series was not given an opportunity to bloom because (and especially when viewed consecutively) it builds a great legend and one that would have been worth enjoying for many seasons to come. One of the few series that plays out like a book, likely given its short run of only eight episodes.

I think had this show been aired years later, more people like myself, would have appreciated the plot, and unending suspensful twists through the journey of Happy Town. The TV rating system is broken, as it doesn't take into account sales and viewings of these shows on sites like Amazon.com. Unfortunately, we will never know how this show might have ended.

It's soo unfortunate that ABC cancelled this series. It really had a high viewership and ABC screwed us by not letting it continue. I thought for sure it would last at least 3 or 4 seasons. I always say don't get too attached to shows on ABC, because they have a history of cancelling them before too long.
