This spiral bound books gives great foundational lessons for markers, colored pencils and paint. My six year old, who loves art, really enjoys this book. Most of the assignments are done right in the book, so at the end of it, the child will have a great art portfolio all in one place. I'm buying another one for my five year old as well. I absolutely recommend it!

This book will really teach your child the basics of drawing and painting. However, it is not very captivating for kids who are not too interested in art. It is not the kind of art book in which the kids will construct things. It's more like learning how to draw and how to paint. It's a very good black and white book.

I would highly recommend this art program to anyone doing art lessons at home. This works great for our homeschool art class!

Unfortunately, this series is more popular than worthy. Possibly because of the Christian content...makes it appealing to us Christians. However, from an actual art standpoint, I find it lacking in actually teaching skills to the level I would expect from a proclaimed art major. Although some of the lessons may seem cute, and the idea of a book like this is alluring, if you really want your child to learn art skills, I would advise looking elsewhere. For example, there are many wonderful drawing books available, that will contain how to use colored pencils, graphite etc... as well as books pertaining specifically to painting...watch the primary colors though. Magenta, Cyan and Yellow are the true primary colors for painting and printing. If you have ever been frustrated with color mixing....you are using the wrong primaries...likely red, yellow, and blue. Search for General Atomics Sciences Education Foundation, there you will find accurate explanations of color theory.

I like this book well enough but would recommend getting the newest version of the book under read of this one. It comes with paint and marker cards, it is easy to use and to teach from. We use it for homeschooling.
