3.0 out of 5 stars Tight, But Could've Been Better, January 12, 2005
This review is from: I Can See Clearly Now (Audio CD)
By the time this particular album dropped, and since Do or Die, the GG'z had long split with former producer DJ Dove, switched to B-rite Records9which featured Kirk Franklin at the time), and with all new production talents on their album, they came back with an all new sound for the 99...the Chronic had come and gone, gangsta rap had played out as hip hop continued to mourn Pac & Biggie, and the likes of the Hot Boys & Jay-Z began to put the club/bling into hip hop. Musically and production-wise, the album is on point and is current. However, for die-hard GG fans of gang Affiliated & Do Or Die, the "bling'bling" flavor had many of us missing the hard, Bangin' On Wax-like edge of the 1st 2 releases, and it seemed to many as if they were changing their style to go mainstream. The cuts that will take you down ole school GG memory lane, however, are Live It Up & Let Us Pray. The rest, like 2Pac's posthumous releases, are geared toward a younger hip hop generation. But the lyrics are on point, as always. Double G'z UP!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars SLAMMIN!, October 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: I Can See Clearly Now (Audio CD)
Double Gz have put down their tightest LP eva with this 1! All tha songs R tight and have Xcellent messages. Some ov the best tracks r-2,3,4,6,8,12. They have phat beats, tight flowing skillz and tha hard hitting style similar to more mainstream stuff. But these guys have God, which iz what makes this LP so Phat! It is also nice to hear Gods Property and Alisha Tyler(of A-1 SWIFT) on a few songs. Pray that these guys can not only stay strong N Christ, but that their music can hit tha mainstream cuz thats where it belongs. If they had publicity that some groups have, they would be on BET & everything like that. Keep it real GGz but don't wait 3 years til droppin yo next album, aight PEACE

5.0 out of 5 stars HOT TRAX!, February 27, 2000

This review is from: I Can See Clearly Now (Audio CD)
When I first got the cd, my friends and I turned up the bass and banged the speakas OUT! ... all the way home through every track, all are good ... I couldn't find one thing wrong. For those of you that don't know much about 'em, buy the cd it will change your perspective about christian rap. 4 those that say they use the "N" word, well I think that's part of being a gangsta and in the way its used it shouldn't be viewed as offensive. And their name, don't being sayin that gangsta and gospel together is bad ... its catchy and the best rap christian name I've heard ... well if anything buy the cd ... and their old stuff is good too .. LIKe "do or die" which I have. If you wanna hear some newer stuff they have a newer cd called "all mixed up" out soon
