Double Gz have put down their tightest LP eva with this 1! All tha songs R tight and have Xcellent messages. Some ov the best tracks r-2,3,4,6,8,12. They have phat beats, tight flowing skillz and tha hard hitting style similar to more mainstream stuff. But these guys have God, which iz what makes this LP so Phat! 3.0 out of 5 stars Tight, But Could've Been Better, January 12, 2005
This review is from: I Can See Clearly Now (Audio CD)
By the time this particular album dropped, and since Do or Die, the GG'z had long split with former producer DJ Dove, switched to B-rite Records9which featured Kirk Franklin at the time), and with all new production talents on their album, they came back with an all new sound for the 99...the Chronic had come and gone, gangsta rap had played out as hip hop continued to mourn Pac & Biggie, and the likes of the Hot Boys & Jay-Z began to put the club/bling into hip hop. Musically and production-wise, the album is on point and is current. However, for die-hard GG fans of gang Affiliated & Do Or Die, the "bling'bling" flavor had many of us missing the hard, Bangin' On Wax-like edge of the 1st 2 releases, and it seemed to many as if they were changing their style to go mainstream. The cuts that will take you down ole school GG memory lane, however, are Live It Up & Let Us Pray. The rest, like 2Pac's posthumous releases, are geared toward a younger hip hop generation. But the lyrics are on point, as always. Double G'z UP!!!

It is also nice to hear Gods Property and Alisha Tyler(of A-1 SWIFT) on a few songs. Pray that these guys can not only stay strong N Christ, but that their music can hit tha mainstream cuz thats where it belongs. If they had publicity that some groups have, they would be on BET & everything like that. Keep it real GGz but don't wait 3 years til droppin yo next album, aight PEACE

When I first got the cd, my friends and I turned up the bass and banged the speakas OUT! ... all the way home through every track, all are good ... I couldn't find one thing wrong. For those of you that don't know much about 'em, buy the cd it will change your perspective about christian rap. 4 those that say they use the "N" word, well I think that's part of being a gangsta and in the way its used it shouldn't be viewed as offensive. And their name, don't being sayin that gangsta and gospel together is bad ... its catchy and the best rap christian name I've heard ... well if anything buy the cd ... and their old stuff is good too .. LIKe "do or die" which I have. If you wanna hear some newer stuff they have a newer cd called "all mixed up" out soon

5.0 out of 5 stars The "n" word?, March 20, 2000
This review is from: I Can See Clearly Now (Audio CD)
Listen bro, grap a dictionary and look up the word. N!gg3r is not a "racial slur" used in a certain context. Snoop dog calls his "homeboys" and enemies by the same name, n!gg3r. Listen, the word is so widely used that it is literally used everywhere. In one side you become a racist and on the other you address a good friend or hated enemy. Why you can't just get over it and realize that they are a christian group reaching dying gangsters in the city in which they minister and if one little word brings them closer to the lost then I say GO Boyz! Stop looking at the little picture and view it from the big where the world is evil and we live in it! How can you fight fire if you gotz no fire. Sometimes it takes a controled burn to prevent big daddy forest fire. I'm not saying that racial slurs or any other form of expletative is exceptable but I am saying that we should build each other up continually even if we disagree. You can't win a war without a little disagreement and a lot of support. send me some mail "G"

( I didn't write the word 'cause I didn't want this posting service to drop my post)

#1 If you don't like Gangsta rap, don't buy this album. It has heavier beats than a lot of secular artists like on "Live it Up", and these thugz definitely hold it down real tight on tha mike. Don't mistake me, they are some of the hottest rappers out there if not the hottest (T Bone is off the heezy too) and they do put it down for Christ. Don't mistake puttin' it down for Christ as makin' them soft. #2 They are ex-thugz, so they do use the word nigga. So what. If you are from an urban background and aren't still trippin' on history lessons, you'd realize IT IS NOT AN INSULT. I refer to my peepz that way and so do they. IF IT'S A PROBLEM, TOUGH. #3 Now that the formalities are out of the way, pick up the album. If you are too chicken to admit the trackz hit and the styles they spit make you sick, you need a prescription, because YOUR hip hop mind is runnin' a fever. With all that said, watch for their new cd "All Mixed Up". I will be.

1.0 out of 5 stars Musically it's ok, but lyrically.., December 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: I Can See Clearly Now (Audio CD)
I have to say that this cd is, musically, very good. It's very polished and professional sounding. The reason that I'm giving this only one star is because of the lyrics. Granted, there are many fine spiritual words of encouragement and edification on this cd. But when I listen to it, I find that I think not of Christ but of the guys who are saying the words. These guys are well capable of writing excellent lyrics, but to me the title "Live It Up" seems to sum up what these guys are projecting here. I mean, "My whole purpose is being right and makin' cheese"? I'm sorry, but no matter how rags to riches these guys are, that is no excuse for being money hungry. They express over and over that they want to get "paid", sell cd's, make money, live large, etc. So while musically the album is 5 stars, lyrically it's just plain funny how they can reconcile excellent Christian values with run of the mill words about loving money, no different than Puff Daddy or someone. Luke 12:15 "take heed, and beware of covetousness, for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth." Buy this cd with this in mind if you really want it.

i must agree with everyone else the GG's cd is real cool. if you are not saved you oughta listen to these former ganstas preach the gospel because they are as real as real could get. and the tracks i must say are off the hook. i bet some don't even beleive it's a christian album. but listen to the first couple songs and you will see that JESUS is all up in it! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD for Kid and Adults, January 23, 2002

Parents
If you want some uplifting music for you children to listen to instead of the gansta rap currently promoting murder, drugs and sex, then this is the album for you and yours. It is a rap album parent would enjoy listening to with their kids. I strongly recommended it for youth ministries to get the message of God to the younger generation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Rock Tunes Straight From The Ghetto, July 13, 2001
By
Mario (Barbados (Caribbean)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Can See Clearly Now (Audio CD)
This is the tightest christian rap album in existence. no one else keeps it as real as the gospel gangstaz and the beats are the bomb. Their song 'Live It Up' has single handedly destroyed all other christian rap. 'I Call Your Name', 'I Can See Clearly Now', 'One Way', Let Us Pray', and the hit, 'I,ll Be Good' are my favorite songs, apart from 'Live It Up'. Mr.Solo flowslike no one else, Tic Toc is a natural Hoodlum and Chilie Baby is in a class by himself. The best part is that the music is not only the bomb to your ears but to your soirit as well. 'Questions', 'Whatcha Gonna Do', 'let Us Pray' and I'll Be Good are some of most spiritually uplifting tracks. Look out for their latest release called 'All Mixed up', which a collection fo remixes from their first and second albums,...The Bomb.
