5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful soundtrack-designed to match film perfectly in mood, August 11, 2009
This review is from: I Can't Think Straight (Audio CD)
Hi All,

Below is a track listing-of one of the most up-beat and charismatic soundtracks I've heard. The compositions brilliantly match the mood and tempo of the scenes-pick this up if you're a fan of the I Can't Think Straight film (see Enlightenment Productions site), or of Shamim Sarif, the director (see official Facebook page). Also check out upcoming festival dates for the I Can't Think Straight Film (Lisa Ray, Sheetal Sheth), and The World Unseen (Lisa Ray, Sheetal Sheth), at the Enlightenment Productions Site.

The film and soundtrack are must have's. It will be one of the sweetest, funniest and, in my opinion culturally relevant romantic comedies you will ever see. The lead actresses have incredibly chemistry together, and the universal story of having love prevail despite Jordanian and Indian family traditions/societal expecations, is a theme that can be expanded to captivate all audiences. I also recommend The World Unseen, which stars the same actresses in 1950's apartheid. And if you've not read the novels, with the same names, both offer additional character devevelopment and insight into their "inner" lives.

TRACKS:

**SPOILERS**

1. Alabina - Alabina & Los Ninos De Sara

**Beautiful opening sequence at Tala's engagement party-festive and sexy. Captures the position that Tala's family has in Jordanian's society and is very catchy.

2. Number One Boy - Khouri, Nadine

**This songs plays in the car when Leyla and Ali are on their way to Tala for the 1st time. Very subtle, quiet and beatiful song.

3. Hey Girl - Mizra, Raiomond & Vivienne Pocha

**One of my fave sequences when Tala and Leyla square off in a tennis match-very fun and upbeat and matches their budding tension.

4. Little Feeling - Casanova, Leonie

** One of my favorites on soundtrack. The lyrics point to Leyla and Tala's increasing attraction that was born from a chance meeting and continues to grow until they can't resist each other. Very sweet, "sticky" and subtle.

5. Mirror Mirror - Mizra, Raiomond & Nadine Khouri

**Plays when Yasmin, Leyla's sister interrogates her about going away with Tala-very cute song and again matches the need for Leyla to admit or reflect on what is happening.

6. Ma Fini Fakker - Mizra, Raiomond & Mena

**Plays in hotel, when Tala and Leyla have their 1st love scene. Incredibly sexy song that captures Leyla and Tala's intimacy and ultimately their submission to each other. One of my favorite scenes and songs!

7. Tell Me - Mizra, Raiomond & Leonie Casanova

*Song accompanies some more revelatory scenes between Tala and Leyla.

8. Underground - Khouri, Nadine

*Plays at museum, and Leyla and Tala are trying to figure out what to do now that their attraction has been consumated.

9. Kidda - Atlas, Natacha-can't remember what scene, but song is very sexy.

10. Hey My Baby - Khouri, Nadine

*Tala attempts to get in touch with Leyla, while Yasmin is with her, very cute, flirty song, that will have you bopping around and remembering Leyla's rejection of Tala when she calls, and Yasmin's rendition of their chaos.

11. Ghanwa Bossanova - Atlas, Natacha

*Beautiful song as Leyla and Tala sit at restaurant and try to overcome their situation to be together. Fits perfect with mood and dim look of the scene.

12. Holy Daughter - Casanova, Leonie

*Tala tells her parents she wants to be with Leyla-lyrics are perfect, though the song was written previously to the movie. Fabulous scene, and song fits like a glove.

13. Love Theme - Mizra, Raiomond

*My favorite off the soundtrack-simple piano, but at two key scenes-when Tala and Leyla are in Oxford and at park, and when Leyla gets poem from Tala (such an awesome scene!)

14. I Kissed A Girl - Sobule, Jill

*Closing song when they are on bench and Tala tells Leyla that they'll have kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mirza Magic, December 6, 2008
Another incredible showing from international wonderkind, Raiomond Mirza. I've heard he's a PHD in music and it shows! Beautiful and melodic, exciting, unconventional and surprising, Mirza's sound track will take you on a sensory journey of multi-ethnic proportions. You'll love 'I can't think straight' for years!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this music!, June 12, 2011

This review is from: I Can't Think Straight (Audio CD)
First of all, I'm not a fan of "women's music" as a whole. But this is and has been in my CD player and on my Nano and I love, love, love this soundtrack.
I watched the movie with a friend of mine, and she commented that the music was a perfect match. I couldn't agree more. It is fun, upbeat, and something to listen to over and over again.
The mix of women's music, Middle Eastern, instrumentals, and the beat make this a good buy. A previous reviewer, who posted the songs with the scenes helped a lot. If you liked the movie, and enjoyed the music, I would say buy it. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have if you love music that tells a story, January 29, 2010

This review is from: I Can't Think Straight (Audio CD)
I Can't Think Straight is a rare treat with a combination of various cultural sounds. As a soundtrack there is barely anything more apt to its movie. Each selection matches perfectly the action of the characters as they get to know each other. The matching up of characters within the world of each protagonist is a joy to watch as the action is enhanced by the music which informs the rocketing and irristable attraction between two people. Leonie Casnova who wrote 3 pieces for this movie also wrote the song for The World Unseen which is the partner movie with the same two actresses that takes place in 1950s South Africa during the early days of Apartied. It's quite a different flavor from the comedic I Can't Think Straight showing the range of these two actresses. Two brilliant films from Shamim Sarif the director of both films and the the author of both books and screen adaptations.
