Book Description

September 1995
Some critics call wu wei the world's greatest I Ching Scholar. Here is a loving interpretion of the great classic of China in the simplest terms for clarity and ease of understanding while remaining absolutely faithful to the meaning contained in the oldest texts. For divination, wu wei recommends the use of yarrow stalks rather than coins and accordingly sent hundreds of Chinese farmers out into the hills of nor theast China to ga ther yarrow. these farmers selected only the straightest and best stalks and carefully groomed each one specifically for use in divination with the I Ching and then shipped them to the United States where wu wei inspected and approved them. Includes fifty yarrow stalks and one I Ching.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I have a friend who lived in a cabin by himself for two years and memorized the I Ching. He revered its wisdom that much. You can save yourself the trouble of memorizing, though, by picking up a copy of this newly revised and expanded edition of Wu Wei's version of this timeless classic. Its introduction beautifully explains the philosophical explanation of why this divination system works so well. Additional chapters give its history as well as a pronunciation guide. The meaning of each of the kua, the symbolic configurations, is explained clearly and beautifully. This is a lovely book to have on your shelf and to use whenever you have questions about the mysterious unfolding events in your universe." --Magical Blend magazine

"Wu Wei's revised edition of the I Ching is a beautiful and clear adaptation of the ancient text for the modern user. His explanations are clear and easy to understand and his language and the answers and cautions given in the various kua are both profound and relevant. The I Ching is a universal wisdom that stands the test of time, and Wu Wei's adaptation is germane to the modern reader." --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great version of the I Ching, August 31, 2005
This is a really easy to understand and easy to use version of the great Chinese classic. In this astute and practical interpretation, the ancient wisdom of the I Ching has come to life for me. If you're facing a tricky situation and you're not sure what to do, or you just need guidance or confirmation of your inner promptings, I definitely suggest using this practical and profound book to get the guidance you need. It's much easier to understand and apply than many other versions I've looked at. And the cover design is gorgeous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yarrow sticks and probability. . ., October 21, 2007

Bethe (Maine, USA) - See all my reviews
Wu Wei appeals to me so much because he is an artist and values learning that comes through the hands. This book includes one of the few explanations I've found for why the yarrow stick method produces a mathematically different "chance" result from the coin toss method. I was inspired enough to go out and harvest my own wild yarrow and cut it into sticks. This ancient Chinese plant actually grows in Maine! Wu Wei's explanation of how to use the sticks is easy to understand and quickly learned. The yarrow stick method produces a kind of indwelling that I have not experienced with coin tossing. It has an earthiness to it that is beautifully complimented by Wu Wei's text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wisdom from over 6,000 years ago, May 2, 2005
I just finished reading The I Ching: The Book of Answers and was most impressed with the author's insightful interpretations of the I Ching's sixty-four hexagrams. The origins of this timeless classic of universal wisdom are thought to date back more than 6,000 years to the great sage Fu Hsi. The I Ching lies at the root of both Confucian and Taoist philosophies. Wu Wei provides perfectly clear, unambiguous direction while remaining completely true to the ancient writings. This newly revised and expanded edition of Wu Wei's classic is unparalleled in its clarity, making this the easiest-to-grasp I Ching on the market. The cover design and packaging with french flaps make this easily the most attractive I Ching available and I'll be giving this to friends as gifts. This is a totally different book from the author's earlier edition and is a delight to read.
