I DO (BUT I DON'T) by Cara LockwoodWelcome to the world of wedding planners! Cara Lockwood's debut novel I DO (BUT I DONT) is a hilarious romp of a book that isn't very serious on plot line but is fun to read. Lauren Crandell is a wedding planner, and she tells her stories about the botched weddings, the crazy weddings, and the outlandish weddings, including the two where she meets super gorgeous hunk fireman Nick Corona. Her dilemma occurs when she feels the sparks flying between herself and Nick, but after meeting several times by accident, and finding that they both seem to have a mutual attraction, she finds out later that he is the groom of one of her brides. What is a girl to do? Read along as Lauren works on some of these crazy weddings, figures out her own love life, deals with an aggressive boss and her aggressive cat Whiskers. As far as chick-lit is concerned, I don't feel there is anything special about this book. The narrator, Lauren, tends to get a bit chatty on occasion, but the story is fun and this book is a great summer read. This reader recommends I DO (BUT I DON'T).

Say "I DO" to a cute romantic tale,

Lauren Crandell is a sought after wedding planner specializing in the unordinary and extravagant. After a chance meeting with a sexy firefighter at not one but two of her recent events in a single day, she's interested in getting to know him a lot better. Lauren's only flaw (other than jumping to conclusions) is that although she's an awesome wedding planner, her own nuptials ended in divorce (and she's still paying for her ex's excesses). The sparks fly, but she soon realizes that her major wealthy wedding coup has a groom with the same name... Could her Nick be the same Nick that's marrying Darla, the society bridezilla from hell? A series of mishaps and mistaken identities ensue, and Lauren finds herself falling for Nick despite Darla's upcoming nuptials.
The story is humorous and cute, and Nick is a very sexy hero. What I found annoying was the constant mention of Lauren's unruly hair. Okay already - uncle, we understand, it has a mind of its own... I liked the pacing of the story and since it's told from Lauren's point of view, we get to find out what's going on right along with Lauren (though I'm sure many a reader saw the truth coming from a mile away).

Fantastic First Book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Do (But I Don't) (Paperback)
In her witty debut, Cara Lockwood weaves a hilarous tale of wedding mahem. Lauren Crandell, the ultra organized wedding planner (who has incidentally been married and divorced before the age of thirty) strives to make that special day perfect for all her clients--until she meets the Supreme Psycho Bride intent on ruining Lauren's career. And then there's Nick Corona--the sexy firefighter with the brains to match the brawn--who seems to be a contradiction of perfect man and cheating scoundrel. An overbearing boss, a vindictive feline, mistaken identities, public humiliation, and an arson attempt all combine to make this a spectacular, outrageously funny read.

Very funny chick-lit,

This book more than made up for my disappointing experience with another chick-lit book. It revive my faith in the genre by having a realistic-thinking heroine, hilarious situations that the heroine overcomes with a certain flair, and of course the guy who truly appreciates her for the imperfect woman that she is. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Kept me laughing,

I really liked this book. I love the way Lauren comes into herself and learns to stand up for herself. She learns that not everything is going to go exactly as planned and every once in a while, things work out for you, not against you. It's a little annoying how she feels sorry for herself all the time, but in the end I think it's important in the development of her character. Lauren is always jumping to conclusions and believing everything that she hears, which makes for really funny drama. The series of misunderstandings only thicken the plot and draw you more and more into the story. The contrast of her completely organized professional life and the utter disaster of her personal life makes for great comic relief. Overall, this is a book that I would put away to read again.

Light-hearted chick lit...,

Reading this book provided me with my first experience of Cara Lockwood's writing. I found the book to be a pretty fast read since I was able to finish it over the course of a busy weekend. It took me about 75 pages to really get into it, but once I did I had a hard time putting it down. I haven't had to be in any weddings yet, and for that I am thankful after reading this book! I enjoyed reading about the relationships between the characters in this book almost as much as I got a kick out of the wedding mishaps that were described. Several instances made me chuckle!
I do recommend that you read this book. It's not one that I would pay full price for, but I would purchase it used and pass it on to a friend (especially a single one!) after reading. I will be checking out other work by this author in the future.

This was a fun book. The main character is very likable and Lockwood does a good job with all the characters and their development. Cutesy and romantic with a look into the world of wedding planning.

A WITTY ROMANTIC COMEDY NOVEL - a must read to ease the stress while planning your own wedding. It's a book you won't want to put down. One evening, I sat down to read this book, I was so engrossed that when I looked at the clock, I saw that I had opened up the book 2 hours earlier. WOW!This book is great for anybody getting married, recently married and even for wedding planners. Lauren, the main character, encounters many hilarious situations, making for a fun read and one that you just might have finished in a couple of days.

I picked up this book at my local library because I likedthe title. I thought that it was very good for a first book. I do hope that Cara Lockwood will write more novels. I was taking my time reading it because I didn't want it to end. Very enjoyable read.

I'n not usually into "chick" lit, but this was on sale at Sam's Club so I picked it up. What a gem! It's such a funny book, with characters (even the minor ones) that you feel like you know. Lauren's a wedding planner whose divorced under 30. She's planned all kinds of weddings, but the one she's working on know is by far the most challenging. A rich, obxnious, blonde is marrying a hunky fireman who keeps flirting with Lauren. Add in a monster boss with equally horrid cat, a hippie sister, interesting friends, and a metro-sexual ex. Trust me, you'll be reaching for this one again and again!
