This review is from: I feel like the Morning Star (Paperback)
This is actually a very good way to introduce children and tweens to science fiction, especially in the vein of City of Ember or Earthseed. Its sad that it's hard to find it in print anymore. I actually found it at my local library way back in the children's section. It has a lot to say about the nature of survival, whether its right to accept a dictatorship in order to survive or allow people to make their own choices. Ella is a charming female lead and I was most drawn to her. The writing style is good - not too simple where older children would get bored but not too complicated for younger ones. My only problem is that the book suddenly ends. Its up to your imagination to figure out what would happen next. I want more. Its too bad this never developed into a series like City of Ember.
