A sterling model of love, family and country music,

There are only two schools of country music. One is centered south of the Mason-Dixon Line and east of the Mississippi River, and the other isn't. If your mother is June Carter (Cash) and your grandmother is Maybelle Carter, I don't believe that you have any choice but to belong to the first school. Carlene Carter has her heart and soul deep in the center of country music.I Fell In Love is Carlene Carter's benchmark. She covers every country sub-genre from tearful lullabies of remembrance (The Sweetest Thing) to swing (My Dixie Darlin'). Her honky-tonk is charming. On `I Fell In Love' Carlene's boast "I fell in love" is questioned by a male chorus with "What do you want to do that for?" `Come On Back' rocks with a Buddy Holly sensibility and radiant girl chorus harmonizing "Baby, come on back to me." Howie Epstein (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) produces I Fell I Love with touches of pop and rock. The country two-step `The Leavin' Side' is garnished with bright jangling guitars. The elegant gem is `Easy From Now On' with tasteful guitar lines and beautiful vocal harmonies. Session aces include drummer Jim Keltner (a stylist who other instrumentalists study in Drums 101) and the refined guitar of Albert Lee (provocative, yet never flashy). Carlene pays a touching and nostalgic tribute to her roots in `Me And The Wildwood Rose' by recognizing the love shared by her, her mother and grandmother. I Fell In Love is a sterling model of love, family and country music.

One of the best female country singers,

I listen to one of Carlene Carter's albums almost every day. All the songs are good, all the performances are good. From old time country to modern country rock, Carter does it all, and excellently."Little Love Letters" and "Little Acts of Treason" are slightly better Carter albums, but this one is very good, and I wouldn't be without it.

I have many Country albums. This one is my all-time favorite,

I don't know which is better, Carlene's sultry and smooth voice or the wonderful instrumental arrangements accompanying her. Listen to the guitar work in the background of "Easy From Now On". So many times a really good beat is sacrificed in favor of other elements in a popular recording (especially Country). This is definitely not the case in this album. Having Dave Edmunds singing backup is like having a Ferrari as your "other" car. Kiki Dee, likewise. Carlene definitely creates a positive addition to the wonderful body of work started by her equally great father.

Country-rock, in the best sense of the term,

With her bloodline going directly back to the legendary Carter Family, Carlene Carter's credintials are well established. This album, however ups the ante, combining a coutry rootsiness with a thumping beat and good times. The result is most impressive. The material is wonderfull varied, from the stomping title track to the lovely "Sweetest Thing." From a cover of the Carter Family chestnut "My Dixie Darlin" to the touching tribute to her legacy in "Me and the Wildwood Rose." From the snarly tell off of "The Leavin' Side" to the cover of the old country clasic "You Are The One" this album is a sure fire winner.

Eleven great songs. The title track is a lot of fun, and amazingly pleasing in a light-hearted way. "Come On Back," "Me and the Wildwood Rose," and "Easy From Now On" also especially stand out. Much of the album provides a magic feeling of having overcome past and present difficulties and heartache to learn from experience and find the strength to keep on smiling and being happy.

You can't find a better example of rockabilly music than this. Heavily influenced by Dave Edmunds, the tunes are engaging, her voice is great, the backround vocals are strong, and the acoustic guitar is outstanding. I've worn my cassette out and have to finally buy the CD.

I listened to I Fell In Love the other day for the first time in many years. It hasn't lost any of its considerable charm. With Ultra-High Powered musicianship, much of it courtesy of Albert Lee, the underappreciated King of Country-Rock, Carlene's miraculous blend of Rock Energy and Country Feelings can brighten anyone's day. As for the tear: Me and the Wildwood Rose earns at least one.
