A great album, recorded in Holland, 1996. Clean and ingenious guitar playing, great vocals as well. You won't be sorry if you buy it

If you like your guitar playing clean and crisp this is the album for you. (Or any Bassett album for that matter) It's amazing to me that he isn't more popular. His guitar playing is something to be treasured. Buy this CD you won't be disappointed.

This CD has become one of my favorites. Not a week goes by without listening to the complete CD. The gutiar playing continues to amaze me. I understand Johnny has a world wide reputation for both his gutiar playing and his singing. The horn sections continue to impress me. The CD leaves me wanting his next one. This is a special record!

worldclass blues,

This is a worldclass blues cd, with a great artist and a great band. Johnnie even played one song in a trio setting, this is one of my favored songs, he redid some of his '50's styled songs, but I like his new songs "I'll get over you" and "Mean feeling" the best. Great sound too! Try to see a gig, enjoy, Jenny

This band is so tight, it hurts. There's solid drums at the core and smooth stylin' saxophones and trumpet, classy blues piano and/or Hammond B3 (always one of my favorite instruments in any genre). I should also make mention of Johnny Bassett's warm vocals and great blues guitar. He also had a hand in writing four of the 14 sometimes unusual numbers.
Normally, I'm not a big fan of charted arrangements, but the horns stay together sometimes like they're playing behind Butterfield, and everybody else goes out a little to make a point but stays within the pack. The tension is divine - giving just enough and leaving you hanging on the next note for more. A little over an hour of music. Man!! |
