About the Author
Bruce Degen is the bestselling author and illustrator of the beloved, perennial favorite Jamberry and numerous award-winning books for children. Bruce Degen's involvement with art has ranged from painting and printmaking to teaching art in New York City schools and directing an artists' lithography studio in Israel. But here his art style kinda resembles the style of Marc Brown, who created the famous Arthur series. What for?
Whatever. I really like the colorful, nicely detailed illustrations (I see Mr. Degen has experimented with scratching out patterns in the crayon, BTW) done in a whimsical comic strip format with cartoon balloons. And the story also carries a beautiful message for all our budding young artists, especially when they are somewhat stifled in a demanding environment where they have to deal with neatly done homework and disapproving family members.
