Pam Purvis cannot be correctly classified as simply a 'jazz singer' as she reaches into and out of the blues, soul, pop, country and yes, jazz. She has a grit to her that is soft, yet unmistakable. When she sings 'On and On' she rocks you into a comfort zone that is beyond appealing. And she owns the standard 'Come in From the Rain', as I have never heard such a pepped-up version with such hep and freshness. Similar qualities were once applied to Esther Phillips, and Pam manages to qualify for the comparison. Ms. Purvis is not a household name to be sure, but she deserves much better and wider recognition, especially among jazz aficionados. If you don't like this CD, then music just ain't your thing. Excellent.
