The musicianship and heart with which this CD was made is astounding. It is nice to hear old hymns revamped. Old school or new school these are amazing songs. I highly, highly recommend this CD as well as Hymns II (can't wait for III and IV to come out as well!!!) My husband and I enjoy Page CXVI!

Page cxvi is a great project and the idea behind the music these guys are producing is wonderful as well! Bringing back hymns into the spot light of the church is an awesome goal and they really hit a home run with this album!
The music is contemporary but not over the top which allows for the hymn idea to work really well. This album is wonderful, talented musicians, great voice, and some really cool contemporary beats and rhythms that you wouldn't associate with hymn songs. I recommend this album to anyone who really enjoys hymns or contemporary good christian music. Love it, hope there is more to come.

The influence is great too, C.S. Lewis' The Magicians Nephew page 116. Read it, its wonderful!

When I heard that the group was managed by Derek Webb, I figured I would really enjoy the CD. I am a big fan of re-inventing/resurrecting old hymns, but in my opinion that is not what this CD does. When I think of "re-inventing a hymn", I think of what Casting Crowns (?) did with Glorious Day: re-inventing one of my all-time favorite hymns "One Day" by setting it to up-beat music and adding a tag to each verse. This CD, on the other hand, is a collection of hymns (and sunday school songs) that are set to unusual, semi-electronic eclectic music and sang very slowly & peacefully in a soft worshipful voice. If you're looking for some quiet and reflective hymns for background music while trying to relax or during your quiet time, this CD may be for you. But if you're looking for up-beat re-creations of hymns that are likely to go mainstream, I would advise you to look elsewhere.
