5.0 out of 5 stars Whitney didn't learn from the best, she is the best.
Whitney Houston continues her streak of #1 Dance hits with I Learned From The Best. The H2Q Mixes are great and they have already spent two weeks at #1 on the Billboard Dance Chart. Any fan of Whitney or of Dance music must have this Maxi Single.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok...but not the best
The slow version of Whintey's "I learned from the best" is not very good at all. It's quite drawn out. The dance version are quite an improvment, but still the song can drag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just when you think she can't top herself......, February 27, 2000

If you thought It's Not Right But It's Okay, Heartbreak Hotel, and My Love Is Your Love were fantastic, just wait until you hear the remixes for I Learned From The Best. They are fantastic, especially the HQ2 mixes and the Jr. Vasquez Disco Mixes. Hex Hector and Mac Quayle really go all out with their mixes. They turn the song into an exhilarating anthem which will have you dancing from beginning to end. Junior Vasquez's Disco mixes show Whitney at her sassiest, with a danceable beat that will have you on your feet in no time. Junior's USA Millenium Mix evens adds a portion from Step By Step. She even recorded all new vocals for the remixes for this song. With this and her previous 3 maxi's, she has proven that she rules the dance charts as well as the pop and R&B charts. A no-brainer for those who enjoy great dance music!

5.0 out of 5 stars A massive dance hit, January 15, 2004

"I Learned From The Best" was the fourth and final single from her "My Love Is Your Love" LP. This track was transformed from a rather uninspiring ballad to big-time club anthem thanks to a series of stunning remixes.

My favorite on here in the HQ2 (Hex Hector/Mac Quayle) Club Mix. Of all their amazing remixes, this is one of the best (if not the best) mixes to come from the HQ2 camp. It blew away the dance floors in early 2000 and is now considered a classic among DJs. With Whitney's powerful vocals, tribal drums, and even breathing sounds, the mix just pounds away for 9 minutes with an amazing amount of energy. The production values are top notch, and the break in the middle is one of the best I've ever heard.

A close second is the Jr. Vasquez Disco Club Mix which is excatly the way it sounds - retro, disco, campy, over the top. Whitney actually re-sang her vocals in the studio for this mix. They seem more raw and stripped down which fits the mix perfectly. The Disco mix got lots of club play too and stands out as one of the best mixes Jr. Vasquez ever put out.

The other club mix (Jr. Vasquez USA Millenium Mix) is also good but just doesn't measure up IMO. The album version is a dull throwaway, but it makes you appreciate just how incredible these remixes really are.

"I Learned From The Best" spent 3 weeks at #1 on Billboard's Dance/Club Chart and became Whitney's fourth #1 in a row.

4.0 out of 5 stars Whitney is learning to be a clubland mainstay very well, April 13, 2000

and whether it's breakin' hearts or breakin' charts, Mrs. Houston is makin' the grade! In this song Houston tells it like it is to the man who broke her heart in chapter 1. In chapter 2, the shoe is on the other foot, and look out because she is fierce! So fierce that the original version of the song could not contain her wrath. Enter HQ2(Hex Hector and Mac Quayle) and Hand-bag-totin' Junior Vasquez. Here Houston's Diva-esque vocal and lyrics come to a full boil. Hector/Quayle turn up the heat with some throbbing beats and dark soundscapes that accentuate the song's retributive nature, giving Mrs. Thang a run for her money. Listen closely and you'll her breathing heavily to the beat. Now while Junior's Millenium Mix is typical of his style, it's his Disco Mix that I really get a bang out of. Everytime I hear the intro to this version I keep thinking it's Donna Summer. Is time travel possible? Or is Vasquez simply showing his age? If I did not know any better I'd be looking for this in the 70's/disco bins at some ol' used record shop. Vasquez is totally on top of his game with this one even incorporating Eiffel 65's "Da Ba De" into his concoction for a reality check for old folks like me:), and Houston,s makes sure she is getting her point across by re-recording some of her vocals for this version. No matter how you slice it this Maxi-Single is a winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Whitney knows how to do it!, March 26, 2000

When I first saw the video for "I Learned From The Best" I couldn't wait to hear what the dance remixes where gonna sound like. And I knew she was gonna have some. I mean after #1 club smashes out of "It's Not Right But It's OKay", "Heartbreak Hotel" and "My Love Is Your Love", why would she stop her streak. These mixes are really cool. I love the HQ2 club mix and dub, especially the part where it's silent for a second and than she goes "uugh" and than the beat pumps back in again. The Junior Vasquez disco mix is cute, but his Millennium Mix is better. I like break downs and build ups and this remix offers a lot. But his UK club mix found on the import of this single is better in my opinion. The Millennium mix has a bit too much noise at times, but I'm loving the "Step By Step" sample. This is a good song with good mixes. I still love the Thunderpuss 2000 remix of "It's NOt Right But It's Okay" the best though (and the original "It's Not Right But It's Okay" is Houston's best song in my opinion ever). And by the way I'm looking forward to her greatest hits album. If you haven't seen the track listing for the album just look at it on this website. ONe side is all slow songs, and one is all remixes. "Greatest Love of ALl", "Queen Of The Night", and the major hot Hex Hector remix of "I Will Always Love You" are included. Too bad though that there won't be enough time to put the full club mixes on it. But I did hear she was coming out with a vinyl copy of the hits and nobody knows if it's gonna include the full club mixes to each song. We'll see...it's supposed to be out on the 9th of MAY!

4.0 out of 5 stars whitney has nothing to learn about hits!, February 24, 2000
This review is from: I Learned From The Best (Audio CD)
whitney continues her hot streak of smashes from the 'my love is your love' opus with 'i learned from the best'. this subtle diana warren-penned track is glorious in it's original version, but putting this in hex hector's hands is magic. along with mac quayle, they add a great dance beat while keeping a lot of the original flair. face it-you can't go wrong with hex hector! the new jr. vasquez mixes are better than the one previously available form europe, especially the 11-minute usa millenium mix. all in all, a great effort by whitney, hex hector, and junior.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whitney learns from the best, March 1, 2000

This review is from: I Learned From The Best (Audio CD)
In the land of the dance clubmusic island, Whitney Houstonis waiting for us by the shore to offer us a new single from the mega-superalbum, but underappreciated"My Love Is Your Love."In my opinion, this songtops it all. Sure "HeartbreakHotel" and "It's Not RightBut It's Okay" were out-of-thebox hits, but "I Learned FromThe Best" is probably her mostserious song, pretty much inthe vein of the latter twotracks about broken relationships and heartbreak. The remixes are awesomes asalways. Jr. Vasquez ruleswith his interpretations, especially his "USA Millennium" and "Disco Club"mixes. The team of Hex Hectorand Mac Quayle (AKA HQ2 Productions) did a great jobwith their remixes on the "Radio," "Club," and "Dub"versions. If you listen carefully on Jr. Vasquez "USAMillennium Mix" in the middle, you'll hear a little bit hisearly remix of "Step By Step,"which I still love and recommend. The album versionof "I Learned From The Best"is the last track from thissingle thrown in for goodmeasure is great, thanksto the writter/producer teamof Diane Warren & David Foster. Whitney, congradulations on yourGrammy win for "It's Not RightBut It's Okay." You definitelylearned from the best.

Whitney's new single I Learned From The Best is just one of many of her current singles that proves that she has what it takes to be a dance diva. The remixes are some of the best. If you like dance and club music you can't miss with this one. Hex Hector really turns the beat up on this track. Junior Vasquez takes it to another level with his disco remix. I strongly recommend this cd to any one who likes Whitney or just likes dance music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whitney is catching on to this remix groove!, April 5, 2000

This review is from: I Learned From The Best (Audio CD)
Fans of Whitney will know that she entered the maxi remix world back in 1996 with Step By Step. There she let Junior Vasquez take a rather weak song and spice it up a bit.

Then came her landmark album, My Love is Your Love. That album had songs screaming for remixes. She did great with three, Heartbreak Hotel, It's Not Right, But It's OK, and My Love is Your Love. Then came, I Learned From the Best.

Keeping the main groove and beat of the song, remixers, Hex Hector and Junior Vasquez transformed this song into a masterpiece.

It is too often that slow ballads don't make great remixes...but this is the exception to the rule.

Junior Vasquez's disco mix takes you back and gets you on the floor. The edit versions are great for those that don't want to listen to 10+ minutes of the same music.

Out of the remixes from this album this has got to be the best. Could there be more coming where this came from? With a greatest hits album being launched in May (with a remix CD included in it) fans of Whitney will have to settle with these. Put it in the disc player, put it on repeat and dance the night away!
