Simply, Looking To Whitney,
By Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: I Look To You (MP3 Download)
There honestly has been no doubt that there have been a real lack of songs that really have hit the nail on the head this year. But, that also has been deeply said with the kinds of ballads we've heard from the wannabe divas like Rihanna's Take A Bow and Battlefield by Jordin Sparks, that sincerely have felt like they were all hype, and especially little to no heart. But, with all the hype around the comeback around Whitney Houston, she had to not only to deliver, but to re-introduce herself to a whole new generation. That absolutely worked with the title track of her upcoming album I Look To You. The song really showcases the simplicity and sheer elegance of Whitney's voice beautifully and with deep soul in the simplicity of her voice carrying the melody in fine harmony. The song is absolutely the best song so far I've heard released this year. I just couldn't stop shedding tears of absolute joy. I Look To You, by Whitney, really touches you in the heart, and with the way the world has been going lately with the death of Michael Jackson, it is the kind of song we need to hear right now. It definitely ranks that high with her best standards like I Will Always Love You.With all the joking people have made fun of with Whitney the past several years because of her personal problems, all the way to her marriage to Bobby Brown ending, it has been quite easy to forget how soulful, beautiful and influential Whitney Houston has been. I'm so glad Whitney didn't throw in the towel and retire. This is really one song I absolutely recommend as a must have for your MP3 library. It definitely will tide you over, until I Look To You comes out next month. We'll definitely hope for more from Whitney Houston soon. Song: A+

As someone who grew up listening to Whitney I am so happy that she has found peace and is releasing fantastic music again. She has always been one of my very favorite entertainers because of her kindness and beauty, not to mention her unprecedented talent. Let us not forget that she was the very first female singer who had a string of number one hits consecutively and who also had the most successful soundtrack in the entire history of American music. That should count for a lot, at least in my book it does.On her newest song, "I Look To You" she does not disappoint. Whitney is beauteous and everlasting and strong and dignified. It's just such a glorious ballad that will cheer you up if you're feeling a little down. When I listen to this song it reminds of so many things. It's a reminder of second chances. It's a reminder of not judging others. It's a reminder of showing others compassion and love and respect. It's a reminder that talent comes in all shapes and sizes and colors. It reminds me to be thankful for what you have; not envious of what you don't. It's a reminder that we should never count someone out because faith will always prevail. "I Look To You" is almost like a gospel song or a song you would expect to hear at church because it's so peaceful and tranquil and has such a fine message. It's a fantastic song to reintroduce Whitney and bridge that elusive gap of both the old and the new material with a preview of what's to come. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Clive Davis for having the integrity to stand with Whitney all of these years. Of course she made him a lot of money and brought his company tremendous riches, but he could have thrown her to the wolves, yet he didn't. Like this song, he had faith in her. It is unfortunate that more people in "show business" do not have even one ounce of integrity that Mr. Davis has. Like Whitney has for so many years, this song has touched me and I hope it will touch you as well. Whitney is the woman that she is meant to be.

WHITNEY IS BACK,

Yes, she is back and Clive Davis is a genius with music and CD's. But this CD is average. Once she was the best. I am sorry those days might be gone, but today many female artists are putting out music that is better and with Mr. Davis helping, that must mean it is the singer. Buy it if she is your hero; this isn't bad, it just isn't Whitney of old.

The title cut and first single from Whitney's forthcoming album is a major disappointment. Her voice doesn't exhibit the same power as even on her last studio two recordings and that, by itself, makes this something of a letdown. Even the song itself is just not "ear-catching."Hopefully, the album, in its entirety, will prove to be something more than this single. For a talent like Whitney, I certainly hope so.

I have always loved Whitney from day 1, ("I wanna dance with somebody" album), and I always will. Yes she has been through some stuff, made some mistakes, messed up, like we all do, but we are all not in the spotlight. She's only human, just like the rest of us. I heard her new song while listening to a gospel station, and I absolutely love it. The lyrics are so uplifting, and real. Do you HEAR what she is saying and who she is singing about, or just listening to the sound of her voice. She still sounds good, maybe she does not sound like she use to, but she is still in it and can hold her own. I mostly listen to gospel music, and this is one of the most inspirational songs I've heard lately. GOD bless Whitney while she is rebuilding her life, and we all need to look to HIM, especially for these times were are living in.

This powerful and emotional song is like a ray of sunshine. The lyrics and melody are supremely enhanced Whitney's beautiful, emotive vocal performance. An endearing song needed in such challenging times we live.I look forward to Whitney's new album!!!

A Song worth all the years we waited for,

I've been waiting for her album to be release for a long time. The single "I look to you" is simply a reflection of the new Whitney a human being, capable of mistakes and capable of rising from ashes. She is one of the greatest songstress of our time. Every time I listen for the track I feel touched; there's so much more than just good lyrics. In her song there's feeling and you feel her art and unique gift.

Whitneysfan2002 review after 30 listens,

I've had the song since it appeared online. Including the free track on her offical website. And listening to it on youtube. Now I've purchased the track - and pre-ordered the album. At first listen it seemed the producation was to much considered the basic producing of Whitney's other track "I Didn't Know My Own Strength." In both tracks I was looking forward to that high note Whitney would carry. However it didn't happen. Don't get me wrong though - because she has range in "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" and "I Look To You." This song "I Look To You" is beautifully written, and is a beautiful track sung by Whitney. You can use it as your gospel song to GOD or how you've looked to Whitney and she's finally here. Or that she is looking to you her fans, the public. You will not be disappointed in this track the emotion, sincerity and relaton Whitney has with the song will win you over.

September 17th, 2009This song is in such a low register, instead of feeling powerful and moving, it came off as a bit underwhelming to me. I honestly was hoping Whitney came back stronger really. But she didn't. It's not completely horrible like some of the mindless drivel we hear on the radio, but it just doesn't have that special something to it. Some people here obviously like it, but I don't really see why. 3 stars. end note: R. Kelly wrote this by himself, and wanted Whitney to have it years ago, but it never got to her until recently.
