Excellent!,
This review is from: "I Lost You" / "Dangerous" (Audio CD)
I was pleasantly surprised by this particular single. Katharine McPhee always alluded to possibly doing R&B/Pop music, but I never felt she could pull it off. I was definitely proven wrong. The first song "I Lost You" gives off a very mature, mysterious sound. Her emotion could be heard throughout the entire song, but particularly at the end. The softnees of the beginning of the song truely gives a nice touch. The second song "Dangerous" has a bit of hip-hop influence. Hearing this song reminds me very much of Nelly Furtado's latest album. The song is ver infectious, and the eerie sound of the beats almost gives off a sign of warning (which is what the song is about, as heard in the lyric "He's dangerous. Protect your heart, he'll tear it apart.")
Overall, I would definitely recommend this cd single to those who particularly love R&B/Pop music such as Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, PCD, or Jojo.

Terrible clothing choice, great songs!,

I loved Kat on AI, and I thought that she was really good. Now, I look at her on her CD covers, and I don't even know if it's Katharine or not. I have to pinch myself to realize that she is actually dressing like that. Apart from the terrible clothing choice (on both this cover and her debut album), the songs are actually very good. My favorite is Dangerous but I Lost You is also very good.

Where is the Kat we know and love?,

I haven't bought this CD, but I have heard samples of Dangerous. I like the song, but that's not where I'm going. What is she wearing???? I've seen her new cover for her debut, and this cover, and all I can say is what was Kat thinking???!!!! She needs to put some clothes on in this one, and her other one is just plain sleezy. Done. What happened to the nice, fun, gentle girl from American Idol? Suddenly, it's Trash City. Where's the Kat we know and love? I give it two stars for the songs.

I like both of these new songs from Katharine. While I would prefer to hear her voice without as much backup singing I still enjoy both of them and think they display Kat's versatility. I love the emoting Kat does on "I Lost You" and the beat and catchy sound of "Dangerous." From what I hear her debut CD on Jan. 30 is going to be a nice mix of sounds and will thus appeal to a wide audience. As Kat so aptly put it on one of her sites, "We're not in Kansas Anymore!" I'll miss hearing her sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow but am ready to enjoy her new sound now too.

Katharine is really going to surprise alot of people with her new sound. These tracks are fantastic! Rumor has it one of these tracks will not be on her debut album, and they're both great songs. I Lost You is a haunting ballad produced by The Underdogs who are going to be earning a slew of award nominations this year with their work on the Dreamgirls soundtrack. You can really feel her emotion on this one. You won't be disappointed!
Dangerous is an upbeat, infectious track that was produced by Danja (aka Nate Hills). Danja has made a name for himself producing for artists such as Nelly Frutado and Justin Timberlake. The great thing about these songs is that eventhough they are mainstream, the vocals still stand out. That seems to be a feat with Pop music today, so kudos to Katharine. I suggest you pick this up, since it's a limited release, it will become very hard to find!

Where is the Katharine I fell in love with?,

This review is from: "I Lost You" / "Dangerous" (Audio CD)
I've been a Katharine fan literally since she sang 'God Bless the Child' in her audition for season 5. I was blown away by her voice, style, natural talent, honest persona, etc. She was good, and she just had it. I followed her through every episode of the show and loved every minute of it. It was a big disappointment when she didn't win, though I honestly didn't expect it because of how the media was covering American Idol (i.e. Taylor Taylor Taylor!).
With the release of her first single, 'My Destiny,' I was disappointed. The song was overproduced, the music drowned her out, and her voice was more like Hilary Duff than the Katharine I had spent months getting to know and falling in love with. And while 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' was much better than 'My Destiny,' is still lacked the authenticity of the live performances. Needless to say, I was still anticipating the release of her pre-album single, and the album itself. I was disappointed again, though, with 'I Lost You/Dangerous.' Both are decent attemps, but sound more like a girl playing recording star than a woman actually becoming one. 'I Lost You' is a good attempt, but I can't here it on the radio, and it's a bit too cheesy for me to really fall in love with. The background vocals and the general style of the song reminds me of the early-to-mid-'90s, which won't sell. 'Dangerous' is another good attempt at a more contemporary song, but it still doesn't have the 'it' that it needs. I'm still willing to give Katharine another try when her CD is released at the end of the month, but I'm definitely not as excited about it as I was at the end of the spring. One thing I am happy about, though, is that none of her previous recordings will be on the new CD; perhaps a fresh start is just what Ms. McPhee needs.

I was a fan of Katharine's on American Idol. I felt she made a lot of mistakes in performance and song selection, but I LOVED her voice. I've been kind of indifferent about her post-Idol career. I could see it going really, really well, but I could also see it falling off the radar. I am absolutely IN LOVE with I Lost You. What a beautiful song! It's been stuck in my head ever since I heard it. I'm not a huge fan of Dangerous, but it's not bad. I feel about this CD the way I felt about her future in general. I Lost You shows the great potential to put out great music, while Dangerous shows that it could also tilt a little into the off the radar category. However, I Lost You is SO good that I'm really exicted for a good debut CD from her! Great Job Katharine!!!!!!

These two songs are brilliant.
I Lost You is a contemporary, haunting, eclectic ballad. Kat's vocals have never sounded so good. I cannot believe this song has not made it onto her album. Disappointing! Dangerous is an uptempo dance song, similar to Toxic. I agree that it is overproduced, but isn't the majority of modern music? I love both songs! Can't wait for the album.

ANOTHER FALLEN IDOL.,

These songs are generic pop music garbage.
"I lost You" is a nice attempt at what Katharine's voice should sound like, however it is still missing something... "Dangerous" is just Dangerously bad. And Please Kat... don't sell out. Put some Clothes on. Period. |
