A timeless topic with a fun, fresh face. For the pre-reader, I LOVE THE ALPHABET has proved to be a wonderful read aloud title, encouraging children to predict the stanza's end rhyme, delighting them with alliteration, and dazzling them with vibrant, colorful illustrations that have been compared to the work of beloved illustrators such as Eric Carle and Lois Ehlert. While alphabet books are typically targeted for the PreK-1 group, I LOVE THE ALPHABET has appeal for older age groups as well, as it highlights language arts topics such as alliteration and rhyme, and visual arts appeal for its usage of cut paper collage. I LOVE THE ALPHABET has a timely release, just in time for the back to school book lists.

PreS-Gr. 1. Jaguars in jammies and snakes swinging from stars bring the ABCs to life in this animal-themed alphabet book. The animal antics are described in snappy, rhyming verse, which sometimes sneaks in some counting practice: "Two mischievous monkeys mambo on the moon / Nine hungry newts are looking for a spoon." Upper- and lowercase letters appear prominently in each spread, large and in color, to aid in letter identification. As fun as the rhymes are, Hosta's dynamic collage creations steal the show. Each letter gets one full-page collage illustration, and the pictures are exceptional. Color, shape, and texture are used to great effect, and the compositions are well designed. Unfortunately the cover, which features a large heart filled with letters, won't attract the audience this book deserves. Lauren Peterson

Dar Hosta's I Love The Alphabet is an alphabet book that combines animal themes for each letter with vibrant illustrations that leap out from the page in a raw shock of color. From "Iguanas on an igloo are feeling rather icy" to "Zebra's in the candy shop for swirly lollipops" this humorous approach to the alphabet helps make learning fun and memorable for little ones.

We have fun everytime we read this book. My daughter received it as a Christmas gift last year. It's one of our favorites. The pictures are colorful and full of life. My daughter really enjoys the story. She likes to hunt for the ladybug too. Pick up this book for your child or for a gift for someone elses. You will not regret it.....

Rebeccasreads highly recommends I LOVE THE ALPHABET because it tells 26 little stories showing how entertaining language can be in brilliantly colored pages, with lots of little clues & fun with words.
Do catch Dar Hosta's I LOVE THE NIGHT too. You will be entranced.
