5.0 out of 5 stars great funny and amusing read!
I mainly bought because my boyfriend over a year is a huge Star Wars fan and has brought out my geek side. It's funny, amusing, and I found things in there I knew, things I impressed the boy with -- not really because he saw me reading from it as I recited my new knowledge, and things I didn't know. Great book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Why this is a bad thing
This book promotes stupidity in people and their knowledge of geeks. This promotes stereotypical thoughts of geeks and tells people that it is correct. This book, friends and neighbors, is promoting pseudo-geek culture. Pseudo-geeks are the ones who wear I LOVE NERDS or I LOVE GEEKS t shirts. This brings down those of us who are naturally geeky, as all they have to do is...

5.0 out of 5 stars From a slightly geeky girl for not-so-geeky girls, April 13, 2009
This review is from: I Love Geeks: The Official Handbook (Paperback)
This girl definitely knows what she is talking about. At least, from the geek boyfriend's point of view. I sincerely hope her advice will help girlfriends everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars A primer, not a manual, February 10, 2009

Hey ladies, tired of meatheads? Carrie Tucker, a self-professed nerd, breaks it all down for the girl who hopes to land a geek in the wild and figure out how to deal with his obsessions (i.e. don't change him, nod politely as he cries over the possibility of a Firefly movie). After a quiz to determine the breadth (and depth) of your guy's nerdiness, and a brief history lesson - from D&D to DOS prompts - each chapter defines and addresses the mindset of various genres, from Anime to graphic novels to video games to film and television to sci-fi to...sports (90-pound weaklings need some survival tactic against guys pressing them against lockers, I suppose). The absence of information on music and literary geeks is puzzling, but this is an otherwise informative primer for women sick of waking up nude in an alley after blacking out at the local sports bar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even if you know your geek, get this for the lulz, February 6, 2009

I disagree that this is condescending. It's mainly for wit in my eyes, and not to really be taken seriously.

Despite that, it has a lot of information in it about things a girlfriend "should know" about certain things their geek is into. ie. There's a timeline of major events in gaming. I like how recent it is, since it adds to the entertainment value. Ms. Tucker has done her research, and is able to write about computers, gaming, movies, and anime, while making it a fun read. The slang used made it more enjoyable, but the sensitive parts concerning what really is great about dating a geek made me appreciate mine more. If only for that, it's a great buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why this is a bad thing, January 2, 2011
This review is from: I Love Geeks: The Official Handbook (Paperback)
This book promotes stupidity in people and their knowledge of geeks. This promotes stereotypical thoughts of geeks and tells people that it is correct. This book, friends and neighbors, is promoting pseudo-geek culture. Pseudo-geeks are the ones who wear I LOVE NERDS or I LOVE GEEKS t shirts. This brings down those of us who are naturally geeky, as all they have to do is buy stupid glasses that they don't need in order to look geeky. They buy the aforementioned t-shirts but would never date an actual geek. Show me the author of this book and I will show you a pseudo-geek. This is a bad book and woe to any who purchase it.

1.0 out of 5 stars a vile book, January 26, 2009
This review is from: I Love Geeks: The Official Handbook (Paperback)
This book must have been written only for the money. It is condescending, inaccurate (every "fact" printed about my favourite show was wrong), and contemptuous. Do not buy this book unless you have access to a fireplace.
