5.0 out of 5 stars The most wonderful book on Guinea Pigs I've ever encountered, February 12, 1998
By A Customer
I do research on every animal I own and this was one of the most informative books I have ever found. The animation is extrordinary and it has made my daughter aware that books can help us all in raising our animals properly. I don't know how many times we have referred to it for one question or another about our guinea pigs. We also love to just go back and look at the pictures because they make us smile. A wonderful childrens book, and if I do say so myself, it is great for adults too. I am so very glad we found this book and bought it. I would highly recommend it to anyone getting or already having a guinea pig. Jackie and Kathy Fisher

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to the care of guinea pigs!, July 23, 1999
By A Customer
I bought this book for my daughter just before we got her first pets, two guinea pigs! The pictures are lovely and the book covers guinea pig likes and dislikes, as well as their basic needs from vitamin c to clean water. The best part though is the author's continued assertation that guinea pigs love to be cuddled!

5.0 out of 5 stars Obviously! Who Doesn't?, August 12, 1997
By A Customer
Warm, richly illustrated with very accurrate yet cartoonish giunea pigs by the same illustrator as "Guess How Much I Love You" and anectotal thoughts from the author of "Babe". Even King-Smith's ramblings are more informative and entertaining than most "learn all about your pets" books aimed for children OR adults. Adult guinea pig keepers tend to find this book FAR more touching and fascinating than kids--I guess because they can relate to King-Smith better. Only complaint--the book is FAR too short

I think adults can enjoy the book as well. Smith is charming, witty and very knowledgeable about the species.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Introduction to G. Pig Ownership for Young Children - a review of "I Love Guinea Pigs", May 20, 2007
If you are considering a guinea pig as a pet, or if you have a child interested in guinea pigs then you might consider this book as an addition to your shelves. It has cute artwork and does a good job introducing various aspects of pigdom to small fry: from myths to diet to housing. There are descriptions of the many colors and hair-types that guinea pigs come in, as well as information about how to hold them and how long they live.

Four Stars. [B-] Cute artwork. Average Read-aloud. This is NOT a definitive book on guinea pigs. It is however a good introductory book you can use to discuss what pet ownership is all about. One highlight, in my opinion, is the author's discussion of the fact that these little animals don't live forever. He talks candidly and sweetly about the deaths of two of his favorite friends. He ends by saying that they are buried in his back yard and that he is "not sad about this - just happy to remember what a lot of pleasure" he shared with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book on Guinea Pigs for children of all ages., June 4, 1997

This is a must read for all kids who love Guinea Pigs: the perfect first pet. I've loved and raised the little rascals for thirty years and still can't get enough of them. Buy it for your favorite kids, or for yourself even. The illustrations are wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars This sweet book perfectly captures the world of Guinea Pigs!, November 7, 2008
The author of this book has clearly spent quite a bit of quality time getting to know guinea pigs and shares his knowledge of and affection for them in this sweet little book. Filled with colorful and lively illustrations, it demonstrates the guinea pig personality, highlights their care needs and even addresses the sad inevitability of their eventual passing. It is a wonderful introduction to guinea pigs for young and old alike and guinea pig lovers of all ages will be delighted to receive this as a gift.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely introduction to Guinea Pigs, April 23, 2007
By
H. D. Driggers (Austin, TX United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a sweet book with factual and anecdotal info re: guinea pigs. Our family especially loved the illustrations by Anita Jeram. We found this book an effective introduction to what guinea pigs are like, what they need (at a very basic level), and how they can enhance a family not quite ready for a larger pet (and not interested in hamsters/gerbils/mice/rats/birds/fish).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, December 27, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have 1.5 years of fostering guinea pigs and a lot of research so I'm no expert but I did read this book before giving it to my 5-year-old goddaughter and I think it's great. I love how it's short and simple sentences which seem like they'll be easy for a child to read. Also there are great illustrations as well as little factoids or captions. I love how it not only shows but describes how you hold and pick up a guinea.

I think my goddaughter will love it but either way I'll put her reaction in once I get it.
