The pictures of baby animals and their mothers, tied together with descriptions of things human mommies do for their babies, make this a favorite book for the pre-schooler in our home. The pages are heavyweight paper, which resists tearing when held by small hands. In addition to the standard preschool fare of kittens and pigs, the book also features beautiful artwork of more exotic animals, such as grey whales, sea lions, dolphins, otters, koalas, polar bears and more. I highly recommend the book for children as young as 2 years old.

This, along with "I Love My Daddy Because..." has been one of my son's favorite books since he was about 14 months old. I'm ordering a new copy to put away for the day when he has his first child, and grandma can pass it along.

Wonderful text describing various things Moms do for children. Illustrated with humans at beginning and end and lots of animals in between. the name of the animal and what that animal's young is called are also labeled on each beautiful illustration.

Ethnically diverse illustrations.

An altogether lovely book age-appropriate book. Perfect for Mother's Day. BUT if a lst edition is important to you, don't rely on the accuracy of this listing. What you receive is a 1996 re-issue from Amazon.
Trying to get that info across to customer service is like banging your head on a wall. Rather than be sent 2-3 more copies of the same re-issue because customer service believes with unshakeable faith that this listing HAS to be right. Which I would then have have to return. And spend more time and bother than I wish on the matter. As has happened before.

Found the older 'board book' version of these at the library when my son was only about 8mths old and found myself checking them out again and again over time. Then, for Christmas 2011 I finally asked for both books(Mommy&Daddy)for him, in this hardback/thick-paged version. He STILL loves them, and likes them all over again for NEW reasons! Now (almost 3yrs old) he can name all the animals and really understands all the different actions of the animals :-)

THe words in this story are cute but the cover and the pics are kinda outdated. The story line is cute about reasons to love your mother. Bought for my daughters.

I Love My Mommy Because and I Love My Daddy Because are great baby presents. The books use animals to give the qualities that they love about their parents. LIke a baby and daddy giraffe, "I love my daddy because he helps me reach things." Lovely illustrations. I buy them as filler items when I'm trying to hit the free shipping mark and then I always have a set on hand.

My son is 24 months old and isn't communicating well. He says his alphabet and numbers, but not words that tell me what he wants, not even "mommy" or "daddy". He loves this book. He lays it open to the mommy page and stands up so he can look at it just right from above it. We have a hundred books in this house (with four kids), but this is the book that has encouraged him to communicate with me, by taking my hand and making me point and say the animals, which he has started to repeat. He can now say "cat, sheep, elephant, and rrraaarrr (alligator)" And even just yesterday he said, "nonny" to the mommy picture, which I hope is a step toward saying "nonny" to me. His sisters also loved this book in their preschool years.

This was a great Mothers' Day gift and a big hit at our house for mother and 2 year old daughter alike. It's a great companion to "I Love my Daddy Because...", and really, if you have one, you need the other. My daughter loves the animal pictures, and she loves having this read to her. This is a pretty durable book, too, which is key for toddlers. Recommended for kids as young as 18 months.

Just another book to read before bed or any time for that matter. Not only because it's pictures are very tranquil. The child learns new things at the same time without even knowing it.
