A Treasure of a Book,
By
This review is from: I Love My Pirate Papa (Hardcover)
I recently purchased I Love My Pirate Papa - and I must say I truly adore this book. I work in Children's publishing and like to stay abreast of the new work out in the field. The story is very heartwarming and full of pirating fun, but it is really the illustrations that set this work apart. Kyle Stone's illustrations are fresh and unique and immediatley send anyone (young or old) deep into the heart of a pirate's most extravagant journey. Even the endpapers are fabulous! I highly suggest this book, it is truly a treasure.

Great great book. Short and sweet (piratey sweet) rhyming tale. The art really carries the story, the humour and the heartfelt theme.
If you've a pirate freaky child (as we do) this one fits the bill!!!

A Wonderful Book!,
This review is from: I Love My Pirate Papa (Hardcover)
I think the imagery and colors really carry this book. The story line is good, but the art is great. A great read for young pirates.

This is a great book all around. I am a children's book seller and would recommend this book as a wonderful gift for a boy or girl, or even for a dad, perhaps for a cute father's day gift. The rich, whimsical illustrations and pirate theme are perfect for today's children--pirates are in, and so are quality pictures books like this one!

A Universal Story of Love b/t Parent and Child - Beautifully Written and Illustrated,

I found "Mushy Mommy of two girls"'s criticism of the gender specificity of "I Love my Pirate Papa"'s closing lines to be quite ridiculous. I too am the mother of two girls, but I surely do not limit the stories I read them to those about little girls. I do not doubt the importance of introducing children to female characters and never wish to return to the days when nearly all main characters were male and told from a male perspective. But how reasonable is it to expect that all stories be told from a female's perspective or feature female characters? Or to discount stories that do happen to feature male characters or are told from a male perspective? Perhaps to be completely fair, "Mushy Mommy" and her like-minded peers would prefer that in the storytelling realm all characters remain genderless. "My dearest pirate child"?
Both of my girls adore this book - the bright, gorgeous, lush and painterly illustrations - the musical movement of the words (which I have recently begun singing to the tune of "The Ants go Marching" and has enabled my oldest daughter, age 4, to memorize the entire book and begin reading it to her equally smitten 18-month old little sister.) What my daughters take more than anything else from this wonderful book is the universal message of love between parent and child.

My 4 year old calls my dad Papa. They always go on Pirate Adventures when we go to visit so when I saw this book I HAD to have it. I was worried that the "papa" in the book would be a father, but it doesn't ever say specifically whether the pirate papa is the father or not. This was great news for me. My dad loved it and everyone who knows about their fun pirate games can't believe how absolutely perfect it is. The pictures are great and the rhyming story is entertaining for all.

We Love this book!,
This review is from: I Love My Pirate Papa (Hardcover)
This book is a big hit at our house! The story is whimsical (it's easy to do great voices to go along with the characters) and the illustrations are really sophisticated, so they hold our little one's interest. Love it!

So far I've bought this picture book for 3 friends who recently had babies. All of the newborns were girls. All of the parents loved the story. Just like illustrations from Kyle Stone's (the illustrator) previous book "Bury Me In the Library", these illustrations are also fantastic!!!

One of My Son's Favs,
This review is from: I Love My Pirate Papa (Hardcover)
I checked this book out of our local library in Bedford, and my son and I now consider it one of our favorites. The storyline seems like a somewhat inappropriate life for the little boy in the book. But in the end, you realize that he really is loved and has a unique life. Not only is the story enjoyable, but the illustrations are very colorful and beautiful.
