A love postcard from Paris to the rest of the world!,

There have been successful albums of instrumental music along the times, but this work contains a basic element. It is made with the best French Romantic themes of the City Light, includes between the members a prominent musician; a trumpeter named Miles Davis and it is conducted by this hyper talented General musician: Michel Legrand, who reached with this work the apex of his lifelong career.
I think this is the best album of Instrumental music ever recorded, despite the fact, more than fifty years have elapsed. This is my last review of this year. My best wishes, appreciated readers for you in this new year 2006 plenty of triumphs and entire satisfactions in all orders.

When we told our son that that our LP of this old family favorite was too badly worn to play anymore, he surprized us by getting us the newly remastered CD from Amazon. They did a wonderful job on this one. We can hear on the CD delightful little musical nuances we had never noticed on the LP. This is a superb remaster of a superb recording. We love it.

Ultimate Parisian mood music,

My husband and I had the original record. It was "lost" when we moved. Thank heavens I've found it again. This is one fine work and I have missed Michel Legrand's sound. Even my thirty year old plus kids like it. A must for anybody. Makes you want to call the travel agent, buy the tickets, pack and leave for Paris.

This is an excellent recording, as it was when I first purchased it as an LP around 1955. It has a fine Gallic style to the music and this re-recording is right up there with current audio quality. But it is the performance that makes it so outstanding.

I was born in France during the war (far from Paris, but why quibble?) I've been an American citizen for fifty years, but I'm awfully partial to French chansons, French accordion music, French cabaret singers from Aristide Bruant through Mistinguett, Piaf, Aznavour, Greco, etc. This album fits completely into that mold. No vocals, admittedly, but the best accordion music around (Paris Canaille is unbelievable). If I find myself pining for the opportunity to walk along the Seine to a friend's apartment on the Champ de Mars, I just put on this album and I'm transported without the need of an airplane flight.Actually, I bought this album when it first came out in the 50's, and I still have the LP, which I played so much it would have worn out long ago were it not for 1 gram tracking force cartridges. Then I taped it on a cassette so I could play it in my car. I couldn't believe it was available on CD, and bought it as soon as I found out. The Gold CD transfer is sonically far superior to the original, and I'm thrilled. I think I would have paid almost any price for this CD. Now if only they'd put Alexandre le Bienheureux starring Philippe Noiret on DVD, I'd be in heaven.

Lovely, romantic French songs,

My parents had this album when I was growing up in the 1950's. It has the best interpretations of classic French popular songs (such as La Vie En Rose) I have ever heard. Perfect for accompanying a romantic dinner. C'est magnifque!

Michel LeGrand, famouse for his movie scores, orginally started as a conductor and arranger. In this, his first album, show his talents at this finest. I Love Paris paved the way for his later classic columbia albums, such as Castles in Spain, Scarlett Ribbons, The Columbia Album of Cole Porter and many others. Many feel that this album is the best representation of popular French Music. I have to agree. In the late 60's Paul Mauriat recorded a similar album that is just as enjoyable. If you want to get to know Michel LeGrand at his peak, buy this album.

" 1950's Paris magnificently portrayed by genius Michel Legrand. I personally prefer this old mono sound to the stereo remake. Great in the car. Truly a magical experience for easy listening lovers.
