ONE OF BRITNEY'S BEST SINGLES EVER!,
By Adam Teak Lagowski (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Love Rock N Roll (Audio CD)
I can't say that I'm a huge Britney fan, but this single makes me want to be one! Britney's cover of 'I Love Rock N Roll' is surprisingly effective, and her voice gives this legendary tune a softer edge. But my absolute faves are the remixes! They make buying this import totally worth while! The Darkchild mix of 'Overprotected'is awesome, with its funky, and edgy, R&B groove. It's not your normal remix either. It's the original pop-sounding song made into an awesome hip-hip anthem! If you are like me and don't like 10 minute long remixes, this remix is for you! The Metro mix of "I'm not a girl..." has a bit of a Spanish-flavour to it with a fast-paced, acoustic-sounding guitar leading this flavourful remix, which is of average song length (not a tacky 10 minute long club mix), and equally as enjoyable as the 'Overprotected' remix. Love her or hate her, this single by Miss Spears' is excellent, one of her best, and worth the extra cash!

I Love Britney Spears...but not "Rock 'N' Roll",

This review is from: I Love Rock N Roll (Audio CD)
If you listen to the LIVE version off her Britney Spears "Live in Las Vegas" DVD that's a worthy cover of the Heart classic. But the studio version comes off too slow and boring if you ask me. It needs more pump, more energy, more attitude...all that lacks from this version. Britney Spears can sing, not with Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston (but she has a unique sound), but too much of the time I find myself going CMON!!

I think that the single has the right songs, the version of overprotected is so cool, even more than the original version, also the karaoke of the song i love rock'roll is great, and the mix of not a girl is good, britney always do an excellent work in her songs.

Britney Spears - I Love Rock 'N' Roll/Overprotected,
By
This review is from: I Love Rock N Roll (Audio CD)
Britney's 4th single in the UK is the cover of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts' hit "I Love Rock 'N' Roll". Britney added her touch onto the track, but making it a bit too poppy for my liking. The original was great, and this is probably, one of the best covers of this song, despite the fact of the "over-poppy" feel to the song. The video for this track is un-believeable, although not featured on this CD. This new single features a quite annoying karaoke version of the title track, the DarkChild Remix of 3rd single "Overprotected", and a previously unreleased club mix of "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" by the Metro Team.1. I Love Rock 'N' Roll - Album Version - *** - The new cover of Joan Jett's hit, but, as I said before, a little too poppy. People say she ruined it, but it is actually quite enjoyable. 2. I Love Rock 'N' Roll - Karaoke Version - *1/2 - What is this? This track has no purpose here. If someone actually remixed this song, it'd be a better placed track, but this is completely mis-placed, and doesn't need to be here. 3. Overprotected - DarkChild Remix - ***** - The Rodney Jerkins remix of previous single "Overprotected". Although not featured on the CD-Single of "Overprotected", it should've replaced one of the tracks on there. It's a totally hot remix, better than any of the remixes of this track. Awesome! 4. I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman - Metro Club Mix - ***** - A new previously unreleased club mix of the 2nd single, "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman". The Metro remixing team delivers a latin-house dance remix of the track, and is totally hot! The spnaish guitar adds a spanish flavor, which adds to the excitement of this remix. Very cool! I Love Rock 'N' Roll [Import] ~ Britney Spears,
By Bjorn Viberg (European Union) - See all my reviews

This is an atrocious song, but Spears makes it much better. Joan Jett can not sing all that well, Spears on the other hand does it justice and turns a really bad song into something that is quite good. I love what Britney is wearing on the cover and she looks amazing as always. She is such a tallented artist...

The "Overprotected (Darkchild Mix)" was really the only reason I purchased this, because my Now 10 CD broke and I didn't have enough money to buy another, and I found this at a much cheaper price (probably because it's only a single). I found one more song that I kinda liked, and the Darkchild Mix that I had wanted. The rest I could careless for.1. I Love Rock & Roll [Album Version] - D+ Very poor remake of the Joan Jett/Heartbreakers version. I guess you can take it or leave it. 2. I Love Rock & Roll [Karaoke Version] - (no grade really, I don't have a karaoke machine) 3. Overprotected [Darkchild Remix] - A+ Really the reason I got this single, because my Now 10 broke (sad face), and there was no other way I could get it. 4. I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman [Metro Remix] - B- It's an okay remix, not one of my favs though. 5. I'm a Slave 4 U [Thunderpuss Radio Mix] - F Horrible remix! Plus, I'm A Slaue 4U is such an overrated and stupid song! 6. I'm a Slave 4 U [Miguel Migs Petalpusher Vocal - see #5 7. I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman [Spanish Fly Dub Mix] - D Although I love this song, the remix ruines it. Overall Grade - D If the remixes hadn't ruined it, it would have been an awesome single, but I guess you can say only buy this if you like the Darkchild Mix or I Love Rock N' Roll (which mostly everyone should hate considering it's a horrible remake). Stay away!

This is Britney's absolute #1 fan here. I just bought this brand new single that Britney has released. "I love rock -n- roll".1. I love rock -n- roll: A good remake of the original. Also available on her platinum album "Britney". 2. I love rock -n- roll [Karaoke Version]: Just an easy instrumental single that you can sing along with! 3. Overprotected [Darkchild Remix]: The best remix out of the 4 remixes. (Also JS16 Remix, JS16 Dub, and Thunderpuss remix). The new beats are awesome! The video is an american vid only. 4. I'm not a girl, not yet a woman [Metro Remix]: Everytime I hear a remix produced by Metro (like J.Lo's Walking on sunshine METRO REMIX available on her remix album) it is always good. The guitar makes a practically whole new version. I would definitely buy this now. I know you can't hold the tension! Britneys True #1 Fan

Worse cover of an awful song,
This review is from: I Love Rock N Roll (Audio CD)
Joan Jett's original version of "I Love Rock'n'Roll" was without a doubt one of the worst songs of the 1980s. Her atonal, pseudo-macho vocals were one of most amelodic things ever to be heard on radio - though naturally with Australia's insatiable appetite for pseudo-macho posturing, it topped the charts here. Now, teen-pop star Britney Spears, in a vain effort to make her image more mature, does a cover of Joan Jett's awful song - and makes it even worse than the original. It sounds as flat as the original did tuneless and atonal, and Britney carries no more feeling than Jett at any time. Don't get either this cover of the original. Stay as far from pseudo-macho posturers as from teen pop.

Don't mess with a classic..stick with the metro!,
By "cecilia_elisabeth" (Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Love Rock N Roll (Audio CD)
I bought this CD for one reason: to get the metro mix of "Not a girl, not yet a woman." Personally I never liked the original of that song, but the remix is great, perfect for summer. The other tracks...simply [is bad]. To do a cover of a rock classic like "I love rock'n'roll" when you're a cheesy pop singer just isn't right. And Rodney Jerkins remix of "Overprotected" is awful! The original is waaay better even if her vocals are too whiney, but on the remix her voice just sounds even more worse! So in conclusion, I probably spent a little more money on this CD than I originally wanted too, but the metro remix is just too beautiful...
