Editorial Reviews

Last years acclaimed 'Blitz EP' showcased a band on fine form, a Kitsune dance-off that rocked floors when they dropped in clubs from Japan to Jakarta. It was, however, only the tip of the iceberg... 10 tracks each with their own vibrant identity, this is the sound of a band welding dancefloor pugilism onto crafted sonic sculpture. "The first album has an outer space style," muses Jens Moelle, "but this one arrives down on earth, it has more songs, more humanity, more depth." But anyone worried that this means the band have become whiny singer-songwriters need not fear, Digitalism rock as hard as they ever did if not harder. Like all energized rockin' music there's a heavy seam of madness in Digitalism's sound. The track Reeperbahn, named after their native city's notorious red light district, is a festival-friendly breakbeat monster that will give The Prodigy a run for their money. There's lethal dancefloor weaponry throughout; Antibiotics is a techno explosion reminiscent of the KLF, with a looped sample exclaiming, You will be disqualified, while Miami Showdown is equally epic acid-fest. All punctuated by the pop gems Just Gazin' - an unexpectedly a delicious combo of local Hamburg singer Cathe and computer-programmed acoustic guitar and the Julian Casablancas co-write Forrest Gump.

I can't help but think that so many successful electro artists have the same formula for 'changing' their sounds as they mature in their sophomore or junior albums. Definitely seems the case with Digitalism.

Upon first listen, I thought it was too much of a departure from their raw and gritty "Idealism" so I shelved it for a while. Recently, I sort of happened to come upon it again while leaving my iTunes going and "I Love You Dude" being on. After having listened to this a few times, I can definitely say it is a successful follow up to their first record.

Not every track will blow you away, and the tracks don't shine as much as maybe "Pogo" and "Idealistic" do from the first record, but there are definitely amazing tracks on the new record. What I think is the most important is that this album works much better conceptually and is more consistent. Easily, you can put this on and listen to it front to back without skipping any tracks. I find that with "Idealism" I often skip to those few tracks that I feel 'shine'

To an earlier point, I liken the change in sound to Daft Punk's transformation. "Homework" and "Discovery" onwards are totally different worlds of sound to me. To this day, I easily find "Homework" as a better record. In the case of Digitalism, I would say though their sound has changed slightly to a softer and more generally accepted form of electo, it is for the better. Their sounds will continue to mature, and though they have swayed slightly from the grittiness of "Idealism" I hear influence from Audion, Chemical Brothers, Presets, Prodigy, Cassius, and others.

Bottom line, you may experience a slightly different sound from their first record that may or may not take getting used to.. but for me it was a positive change and the record is a solid one.

I had heard only three songs of this album before purchasing, i put my trust into digitalism and not only did they not let me down; they knocked me on my a**! if your a fan of Daft Punk, Deadmau5, Justice, or if you even remotely interested in having your album become an experience instead of just a handful of songs; buy this album. It was more than worth it.

I really want to give it a 5, but it had like 3 songs I didn't really care for. Totally worth the purchase though. Deserves a listen and then a second and third listen at least for any EDM fan.

Club music and easy drums and bass.. Best way to describe it. Id reccomend this title
to anybody who likes D&B or if you like the band Pendulum.

I really dont get why these guys aren't more popular. If you like Justice, Daft Punk, or electronic/dance music in general, then seriously give these guys a try. I heard them at my buddies house and was hooked first listen. It is catchy, groovy, tap-your-steering-wheel-and-sing-along dance music.

The only song that I really dont care for is Reeperbahn, other than that it is a pretty amazing album. Give them a try!
