Wonderful and easy to memorize!,
By
This review is from: I Love You, Good Night (Paperback)
I first read this book while I was a nanny for a beautiful, intelligent little girl. At the time, she was 3 years old and owned over 300 books! She knew almost every one of them by heart. This book was one of her favorites and mine. We would read this before her nap and she could tell me what was coming up on the next page. It cute and so easy to memorize. Memorizing a simple, loving book like this one, shows your child how important reading books is in life. Plus, everyone wants to know how much they are loved! I love this book, like "...pigs love pies!"

I Love You Like Blueberry Pancakes,
By
This review is from: I Love You, Good Night (Paperback)
Kids love to play and, with a few exceptions, they hate to go to sleep. They often require a little encouragement to turn in for the night and there are many books that were written to persuade children to get the rest they need. These books often lead up to the subject of sleep through various means, like talking about relaxing thoughts, illustrating animals sleeping, or depicting the dark of night to get kids in the mood for some much needed rest.
I Love You, Good Night, in spite of its title, is a little different type of book. Its title led me to believe that it was going to be a book about falling asleep, but it isn't exactly that type of book. It is actually a book about expressing love for your little one by comparing this feeling to other types of loving feelings and loving relationships. Starting with I Love You Like Blueberry Pancakes, the book continues this theme all the way to the end, when it encourages kids to fall asleep by showing the two main characters- a mother mouse and her child- in the child's bedroom (Note: There are different versions of this book; one with people and one with animals. Mine features animals) with the mother mouse whispering I Love You, Good Night. This book is effective for several reasons. First, I like the way the baby mouse in the book is not illustrated with any respect to its gender. You can't tell if the baby mouse is a boy or girl and this is good for children because they will not feel excluded one way or the other. Second, the rhyming pattern gives the book some much needed rhythm. Each set of pages ends in a word that then rhymes with the last word on the next set of pages and this makes the book more readable for children. The illustrations in this book offer a cartoon- like appearance with an assortment of colors. The backgrounds on each set of pages are not as cluttered as they are in some children's books. Instead, they are rather basic and they help to focus the attention on the mother and her child. Like I said, this isn't really a night time book in the usual sense, because it doesn't set the mood for falling asleep like some other books. But it will still suffice as a bedtime story since it ends with the baby mouse falling asleep in its bed. Some children might quickly get the message on the books final pages and accept this as a cue to get some sleep. Others children will not, but it couldn't hurt to at least try using it for this purpose. Overall, this is a very good children's book and I like the rhymes and the simple message. Some of the comparisons are a little corny, but little children in the toddler to young grade school age group will enjoy the book nonetheless and they should have no problem picking up on the book's important main message.

Our baby's favorite,
By
This review is from: I Love You, Good Night (Board book)
This was an impulse purchase Christmas present for our seven-month-old. At the same time, we purchased two classic books for babies, ones we knew and loved already from reading to our older children, and which we thought were sure to please. From the first day this one was her clear favorite over the others -- at nine months now she will dig it out of a pile of books, pushing others aside when we try to offer them, and she "talks" to and laughs at the illustrations all the way through. I am thrilled with how well the book has engaged her interest (and I can't say I mind the excuses for "kisses and cuddles", either), so I give the book my highest recommendation.

Wonderful Book (mouse version),
By
This review is from: I Love You, Good Night (Board book)
THere are two versions of this book, and when I typed in the title here at Amazon (to rate my version), the version with the mice didn't come up. I finally found it by typing in the illustrator's name: Bernadette Pons (a great way to find similar books to love).
Anyway, I love this book and so does my daughter. I have read it to her since she was a very young baby, but only now, at 17 months does she really love it. She wants to hear it every night, a few times. She likes certain lines "I love you like pigs love pies," and she likes to see the little mouse with his/her teddy bear. A real treasure. Very sweet and reassuring. Simple prose. Not deep, but lovely: "I love you like I love blueberry pancakes; I love you like I love strawberry milkshakes." The ILLUSTRATIONS in this mouse version are what my daughter really, really loves (and me too). Very cute!!! Highly recommend.

I Love You, Good Night,

This is a wonderful book that children love to hear over and over. The beautiful drawings depict a mother helping her little girl prepare for bedtime while telling her how much she loves her. My 2 year old daughter (and my 9 year old son) enjoys "reading" each line with me. This is a book that gives a warm, snuggly feeling everytime we read it!

I had this book when my daughter was 5. I used to read it to her all the time but I guess I sold it in a garage sale. The book has been rewritten and new pictures were used but I wanted the old book. I was and am very excited to find it. Today is her birthday so she is 22 now. When it came in the mail, I read it to her...lol. It brought tears to my eyes. It was worth paying a little bit more for it.

Not our favorite,

I'm glad that other people enjoy this book, because I'm getting ready to donate it. My toddler daughter has never liked it. I think it's the pictures of the mouse characters that she doesn't seem to enjoy. I don't like the wording--"I love you like I love blueberry pancakes"? That's not accurate. I always read it--"I love you more than I love blueberry pancakes." But that's the first page and as far as we get until she selects a different book. But I think the pictures and colors are nice and apparently some children (maybe older children?) enjoy this book.

This is a book that I could read over and over to my kids and never get tired of it. We had an older paperback version but the pictures in this one are cuter. I like to buy the board book to give for new babies. It's a very sweet book.

This is a really cute book. My 2 1/2 year old loves to read it. It's perfect for bedtime because as soon as we say "I love you, good night", the lights go out. No stalling around, looking for things to do other than go to sleep! This was a great purchase.
