NOT LeAnn's NEW album!,
By Patrick (Wisconsin, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Need You (Audio CD)
This album needs to come with a warning that this is NOT LeAnn's new album! Everybody is grading the album down because there are old songs on it. This is a package of previously recorded songs that were not on any official LeAnn Rimes album. Her NEW pop album comes out this spring! Everybody take a sigh of relief. LeAnn wont let you down. Now I'll review the songs on the album.1. I Need You - A gem! It's the best song on this or any other LeAnn album. It'll be hard for her to top herself on this one. 2. But I Do Love You - A great new sound for LeAnn. Most artists songs all sound the same. This gives variety to what LeAnn can do. 3. You Are - A wonderful upbeat song. It really makes you want to sing along. 4. Soon - It's by Diane Warren so you know it's gonna be good. LeAnn's voice soars on this song. 5. Can't Fight The Moonlight - One of my favorites! Britney Spears has nothing on her! LeAnn can do any style, any time, anywhere! 6. Love Must Be Telling Me Something - A nice song. Sounds a bit outdated. Would have gone good on her self titled album. 7. Written In The Stars - Elton John picked the perfect person to duet with. One of the most beautiful duets you'll ever hear. 8. One Of These Days - A great sound but could have been a lot better. The climax of the song is at the beginning and it leaves no surprise at the end. 9. I Believe In You - The best of the new songs. Would be a big hit if released as a single and video. Probably wont be. 10. Together, Forever, Always - Sounds out of place on this pop album. This song is old style country. A great preview of what LeAnn can do as a song writer. Would be a big hit on Country stations. Reminds fans of her "Blue" days. Over all GREAT ALBUM!

Great despite little input from LeAnn,

Let me start by saying this is NOT the album LeAnn's been writing for. That's due out later this year. This is an album of already recorded material from other sources that Curb(her record company)already had on hand.Be warned that LeAnn's current musical direction isn't necessarily represented here as this isn't one she worked on or had much to do with. That said it's actually a great album. Some songs are recycled from other sources such as "I Need You","But I Do Love You","Can't Fight The Moonlight",and "Written In The Stars"(duet with Elton John).Any LeAnnfan already has them so I'll not say much about them.I love the first three but all are already released elsewhere on various soundtracks. It's the other six that are the real prizes here and what make this album a must for any LeAnnfan and a great choice for everyone else."I Believe In You" and "Soon" are great ballads with a pop feel to them."Together,Foever,Always" is the first song I've heard written by LeAnn herself and it's another great ballad, this time with a country edge to it."You Are" is more upbeat and pop and also very good."One Of These Days" is an upbeat power ballad and perhaps the best song on the album."Love Must Be Telling Me Something" is an R&B feeling adult rocker showing off LeAnn's amazing vocals yet again. Despite coming out of nowhere and having little input from LeAnn on the song choices this is a great album and a must addition to anyone's collection.

A Good Album, Considering,
By Storm2001 (Campbellsville, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Need You (Audio CD)
The main thing one must remember while listening to this CD is that these tracks are not the choices of the artist. LeAnn Rimes found out that this CD was going to be released about a month before it hit store shelves. She put no work into it and didn't get the choices of what songs would be included. Her former record label, Curb Records, recycled LeAnn material they had stored away which includes previous released singles, unfinished music, and songs that she chose NOT to use on earlier records. But Curb needed some money I suppose and thought they hadn't milked from LeAnn lately and decided, "Hey let's use this girl again." Considering what Curb has done, this CD is pretty good. The songs range from well written ballads to up-tempo tracks that can be enjoyed from the typical LeAnn Rimes fan. She has apologized to her fans that her label has released this music and insures us that more (and better) is on the way.

Not for the traditional L.R. fan...,

First off, I have bought all of LeAnn Rimes albums. Some I liked a lot, others, I couldn't stand. In other words, I enjoyed Sittin' On Top Of The World and consider that my favorite, though Blue is fairly good. If you have both, you will notice the difference between modern (ahem) country/pop and traditional country (errr, Sittin' vs Blue...).I was very disappointed with her last album, but kept it only because of the photos. They were most wonderful, but after Sittin', she went back to traditional sounding country. This time, she has definitely stepped into her own (just wish she would write her own stuff...). You could call it 'modern' country or even pop and it's almost as good as Sittin'. Let me say this, I didn't watch Coyote Ugly so I didn't see her freshmen acting performance, though I do recognize the songs. I Need You is a good album with a good mix of pop and rockin' country. I have found that LeAnn has tremendous range with her voice so she is very able to change to different types of music. The Elton John duet is excellent (almost sounds like a Billy Joel to me...) and the music is very groovy. Like the Vitamin C album that just came out, I wish the booklet was much larger. No lyrics, no photos, no nothing!!! It has the track listings and... Oh lovely. It almost seems like a rush job to get the disc out because of the poor booklet. Part of the charm were the wonderful pictures...

This is one of LeAnn's best CDs, although she was not allowed to input any of her personal artistic talent--her talent is proved in her voice. Some songs are re-released, but you may be surprised to hear different versions. The new songs are great. The CD is all-together worth buying.

Enjoyable but not Classic Leann,

Although this is not the usual Leann style I still enjoyed it! I was disapointed that 3 of the songs I Need You,Cant Find The Moonlight and But I Do Love You were already released as singles last year and I wasnt sure whether to buy it because I felt it would be a waste of money but Im glad I did! The best cuts on the album besides I Need You are Soon, I Believe In You and Together Forever,Always. They are sung in true Leann style... Country! I was not impressed with You Are.It sounds truly out of place with the country songs. If I want to hear a dance song I will buy Madonna.Dont get me wrong Leann can sing anything and make it sound amazing but that not the Leann Rimes Ive loved since Blue.Shes the reason I started enjoying Country music again and if she goes to far with this dance stuff I wont be buying it.She has too much talent to be worrying about competing with Brittney Spears etc.Another good selection is her duet with Elton John and this song alone is a good reason to buy it! Not a bad album considering she had nothing to do with it.I just hope when she releases TRUE later this year shes stays true to her country roots!

First I wanna say that I own each of LeAnn's albums, and this was a brand new direction for her. She has an amazing voice, and that makes this album perfect. The songs are all pop and not country as her last cd. I think this is one of LeAnn's best albums.

Straying Farther From Country,

Much has been made about Leann Rimes lack of creative involvement in this project. When I first saw the track listing for the album, I suspected something was up, what with the lawsuits Rimes has filed against her father and the record company, and the fact that four of the songs here are previously released(and one that dates back two years). Nonetheless, this is a pretty decent effort, with the only issue being that it has a somewhat inconsistent feel to it due to the various song styles represented. First, there's nothing here that is remotely country, with 'Love Must Be Telling Me Something' being the closest thing to anything that might be misconstrued as country. Second, there are a few duds here, particularly the awful ballad 'Soon' and the closer, 'Together,Forever,Always', which she actually wrote. Third, Rimes really needs to find a new producer--the production on all her albums, done by her father, has always had a dated feel to it, and that is no exception here.At times, she sounds as if she's singing in a cave. On the plus side, there are several great tunes, including 'Can't Fight The Moonlight'(which should have been a HUGE pop hit),'You Are', and of course,'I Need You', which though dippy at times, boasts her finest vocal work to date. With a new producer, maybe Rimes will make the pop album that many suspect she has in her.

Right on, LeAnn. You can still walk on water.,

With this album Miss Rimes serves notice that she's nobody's genre. She also demonstrates that she's one of the all-time most versatile voices of popular music. She can paint a sweet song like "Soon" in soft watercolors as easily as she can the earthy "Love Must Be Telling Me Something" with garish and catchy splish-splash rhythms. I can't say I disliked any of the selections in this album, although "I Believe in You" and her own back-to-her-roots, country-style ballad "Together, Forever, Always" were probably my favorites. What a unique and fabulous talent. I'm looking forward eagerly to her next album - in whatever genre she chooses.
