I NEED THIS SINGLE!,
By Jessica Lynn "may_bubbles" (Pennsylvania, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Need You / Spirit in the Sky (Audio CD)
When I first heard this song, I was dying to find out who the artist was...I was shocked to learn it was Leann Rhimes...I never really listen to country...but it is strange because this song falls under the Gospel category...then I found out it was for a TV soundtrack...and that's even better. I absolutely love the song...the words are moving, and Leann has a gorgeous voice that gives me chills. Even if you don't like country (or gospel) music, this song is enough to even make a grown man cry!

Since LeAnn is locked tight in that never ending contract with Curb, they are continually releasing CD's of her material, some of which never appeared on CD's before. In a strategic move to make sales based on some of her most recent hits, thrown in with some rare songs and b-sides, Curb releases the compilation I NEED YOU. Originally released in January 2001, it was re-released in March 2002 to accomodate more songs, including her Olympics 2002 song "Light The Fire Within", and miscellanious remixes of some songs. Before I comment on the album, I find it interesting when this was first released in 2001 LeAnn was totally against it on record, didn't want to support it. Now she's supporting it. Interesting...The album features some of her best work over the past few years. Most notably the title track, a spiritual ballad from the JESUS mini series, definately a highlight and vocally she is up to par. Then fast forward to COYOTE UGLY era, where she provided the movie's theme "Can't Fight The Moonlight" which was a monster hit for her. Also included is "But I Do Love You", which is also from the COYOTE UGLY OST. Other past hits including "Written In The Stars", the duet with Elton John. We have some Diane Warren ballads on board as well, "But I Do Love You", "Soon" and "Can't Fight The Moonlight" are all penned by Diane Warren. Decent songs overall. Then there's the song LeAnn helped pen, the country ballad "Together, Forever, Always". Some of the best unreleased songs here include "One of These Days" and "I Believe In You", where LeAnn turns in commanding performances. Then we have the extra's, Graham Stack Radio Edits of "I Need You", "Can't Fight The Moonlight", and "Soon", and an Almighty Radio Edit of "But I Do Love You". Overall the remixes are touch and go, but if you're a fan I guess you would like them. Overall its a nice collection, sad that its a cash cow to allow Curb to make more money off of her. I hope she comes back with an album of new material, until then this should tide you over.

LEANN DOES IT AGAIN!,
This review is from: I Need You / Spirit in the Sky (Audio CD)
For those of us who are fans of Leann Rimes, it's nice to have a new song. My only criticism is that I prefer CD's with multiple songs rather than the singles. Leann is truly an amazing and gifted singer. Either you like her or you don't...and of course some of you may be somewhere in between. As for me, I think she's great and look forward to her new songs. She touches my heart and soul as few singers do.

Uneven collection of unreleased tracks,
By Jake Z "holden84" (Canada) - See all my reviews

This album was released originally in early 2000, against LeAnn's wishes, without her permission. She was in the midst of many trials with her father, and her record company Curb. She stopped recording altogether and as a result they took some mixes of songs they already had and put out this compilation. 2 years later they re-issued it with 4 extra remixes and the Olympics song "Light The Fire Within". The collection doesn't work too well. There's some nice songs like "I Need You", "But I Do Love You", "Soon", but a lot of them should have been left unreleased. The remixes are nice though. Still not an essential album to have by any means.

I would give this song eleven stars on a ten star scale. The best love song in a LONG time. Thank you LeAnn for putting "your all" into this song. It makes it so much better. Take the chance - on it because it is PRICELESS!

"I need you" is by far one of LeAnn's best songs ever. Over time her voice has matured and "I need you" is the perfect example of what a great artist she has become! This song is an inspiration to all of her fans. It captures her inner most feelings and captivates her audience in the most spine tingling way! Definately a song for the collection!

This is a great song. Her vocals are very powerful. She hits a huge note spread. This song proves Lee Ann was not just a teen star. She has what it takes. I look forward to hearing her music for years to come.

This album and the tracks within...,

Ok, I have been reading a lot of people who write complaints about LeAnn's 2nd track "I Need You" in this album. People saying, how she licks her lips, and dances all proactive. Well she does not lick her lips at all, and does not dance all sexual like some of you are claiming. The only thing I caught was her sticking out her tongue, but she was laughing, and having fun with the video. She is singing to God, she is holding her hands and guiding the light that floats around her. She is also standing for a second and then the white light pretty much turns into a burning bush and changes her outfit to white, which resembles pureness. LeAnn's first song on the CD "Light the Fire Within" is amazing, her vocals are purely gracious and harmonized. She really outdid herself in this song, that's why she was chosen to sing this song. "I Need You" is not only the albulm name, but one of the best tracks on the albulm. This song is for any country/gospel/contemporary music fan out there. It's a song everyone could easily listen to over and over again, and not get sick of it. LeAnn's 3rd song "But I do Love You" is really good also, which was feature in the smash movie "Coyote Ugly" which still holds a nice ranking in Amazon.com's top sales, as well as the soundtrack! This song is really sweet and smooth. LeAnn's 4th song "You are" is one of my personal favorite's. This is actually an extended version of the one on the previously released CD, really cool song. The 5th song "Soon" is a great song all over the country. Play's on American Top 40, and Country music stations everywhere. Very nice and relaxing. Can't Fight The Moonlight" is one of LeAnn's best songs. This song can be recognized in almost every part of the world. There are tons of remixes to this song, which are done by the top names in the business. This song is definitely one of the highlights in the CD. LeAnn's 7th song "Love Must be Telling Me Something" has got to be an unfinished song. You can really tell at the end of the song where it repeats itself a few times. This must be a reason LeAnn didn't support this album because her record company released this album with her knowledge/permission. Basically this song was probably snipped from another CD. "Written in the Stars" with Elton John is also a good song that LeAnn did. Very sweet, and their voices blend well. "One of these Days" is another one of my favorites. Her vocal talent shines through in this song as well. I really like the climax of this song, its awesome. LeAnn's 10th song on the album is "I believe in You" This song is really great also. Nice vocals, and a great feeling. I can't really explain it without repeating myself, but it's definitely a good song you can hear over and over. LeAnn's final (unedited/remixed) song "Together, Forever, Always" was actually written by LeAnn herself. This song is also amazing, the tune is very nice, but seems a bit out of place. It would of fit much better in "Blue." The remixes are all good, but they are all pretty short. If I want to hear a remix, I want to hear it long enough where I can get some dancing out of it. If you like these remixes, buy the remixed CD singles, and get the longer versions, they give the songs more justice. All in all, this CD is one of LeAnn Rimes' best, and I can't wait for her new CD coming up soon, sometime. She's doing her own thing, and some pop, R&B, and whatever she feels like doing! I know she will show those girls what's up and how to do things. LeAnn's the best, she's been around for 8 years, and she will continue to stay around.
