3.0 out of 5 stars Just bought this DVD player today. Will return tomorrow., April 9, 2010
This review is from: 22X Ext. Ls DVD-RW (Electronics)
I bought the I/0 Magic 22x external DVD burner today at Staples.

This looks like a great machine, but the door won't open. My computer recognizes it. It lights up to show that it's on. But when I press the button, nothing happens. The drawer won't open. I went into My Computer and right clicked on the DVD drive icon and chose "Eject." Then the drive started making noise and trying to open, but an error message came up saying there was a problem. Not a good beginning. If I replace this one with another of the same kind, I will test it at the store first.

The good thing with I/o magic is that the support people answer their phone! Also, the horrible Nero software does indeed come with this drive, but it isn't required for the machine to work. I will probably give it one more shot and just exchange this for another. If the drawer doesn't open a second time, I'll get a different brand.

*This is my second try at getting a DVD burner to work. I already tried an HP, and I was tied to one kind of horribly inefficient software (Nero), and the support was a nightmare with HP--non-existent. Nero was just a gimmick that required me to spend $60.00 for the real software to burn movies. I am definitely NOT using the Nero software that came with this I/0 burner.

Anyway, I think this drive might work in the end if I exchange it for another of the same brand, but I'm really disappointed that it malfunctioned the first time I tried to use it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as Advertised, December 30, 2010
This review is from: 22X Ext. Ls DVD-RW (Electronics)
got this with a VHS converter for Christmas to preserve my favorite VHS movies to dvd. Kept saying insufficient space even for a 72 minute movie! Tech support had me download nero and it gave the same error and wanted the .mpg file in .vob format. After THREE HOURS on chat w/tech support, we still did not find a solution. This may be fine for music cds or family photos or videos - but it does NOT record 8.5gb or up to 4 hrs of video. Plus, it comes with a lightscribe disk, but it is a cd-r, not a dvd - totally bogus experience.
