Book Description

Genre: BDSM LGBT Shape-shfter Paranormal

After one mind-shattering night with a stranger at a local leather bar leaves him forever changed, Gabriel lives on the streets as a vagrant to elude the master who hunts him, but the were-shifter is a fierce, stubborn predator who reclaims him soon enough. Gabriel is carried away to the pack’s home territory where his instruction on what it means to be the pet of an alpha begins. Gabriel isn’t just any pet, though. He is the rarest among their kind: a human omega.

Treasured? Or cursed?

As Gabriel’s father, the Distinguished Gentleman from Pennsylvania and stalwart of the conservative party, pushes the considerable resources at his disposal to locate his missing son, Gabriel explores who and what he is under his master’s careful protection. Gabriel falls for the shifter who is lover and destroyer, owner and...friend?

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: BDSM theme and elements, dubious consent, male/male sexual practices.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Short... November 27, 2011

... and not in a fun, "I didn't want this book to end..." way. This was an engaging 2/3rds of a story, smoothly written with likable characters. The beginning is fantastic (if you like this sort of story), really grabs the reader, and I like the alpha-omega dynamic. However, it is ~1800 "locations" in length (this info should be readily available to consumers for every kindle book/story).
I really enjoy m/m and paranormal fiction-- the subjects individually-- and crave more cross-genre stories. I haven't had a lot of luck finding authors/books which successfully combine the two (I haven't looked on goodreads for suggestions yet). The story was missing the omega's interactions with pack, and more detailed evidence of how he fit, how he came to accept his role in the pack and why he was important to the pack. It seemed like a chunk of the "paranormal/shapeshifter-pack story" part of it was missing.
I don't write a lot of reviews, and I waited a few days before writing this one. I hope it's helpful to someone.

Kari Gregg's I, Omega will appeal to two different types of readers: those who love BDSM and those who love shifters. I must admit I am in the latter camp, but the BDSM element worked for me in this instance, despite my usual vanilla reading tastes.

The book starts with Gabriel being hunted by the shifter who he had a one night stand with. After that night, Gabriel abandoned his life to go on the run to avoid the man who had forever changed him, marking him as his Omega. However, when his Master, a force of nature named Cal, eventually finds him; Gabriel soon learns what his role in the pack is as Cal's pet and most treasured human.

Since I am not used to reading hardcore D/s themes, I have to admit it took me a few chapters to get into I, Omega, but once I did, I am glad I continued with the book. Cal and Gabriel are super hot together and nothing screams top!Alpha more than Cal and his treatment of Gabriel. While the extreme BDSM might not be to all readers' tastes, I felt Gabriel's submission helped propel the storyline along. In fact it was key to the plot and explaining Gabriel's role as an Omega in Cal's pack. Plus I think a little D/s in werewolf stories are expected at this point in the genre and Kari Gregg delivered in all aspects!

In general, I, Omega is an interesting take on the werewolf trope, weaving in BDSM and claiming elements that flowed naturally to tell a fascinating tale of love, possession, home and family. I foresee more from Ms. Gregg in this universe and I look forward to every delicious journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Whirlwind Romance October 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I agree with the first review whole heartedly. I hope there will be a sequel as well. I would also like to say that I find myself yearning for a prequil too! The way the story begins with the omega being on the run from it's alpha makes me hunger to know more about the how's and why's of the plot. The fact that the story starts in the middle of the hunt is why I feel like this sucks you in like a tornado. From then on it just keeps going at the same pace. Up to the very end. There were no lulls to bore the reader with. The characters and their group dynamics develope just as if they were actual wolves...err werewolves. ;
P.S. This story is definately NOT for minors, or for adults with weak constitutions for that matter! LOL

Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

Rating: 6/10

- The story shows the beginning of Gabriel's training as Cal's sub, and it struck me as a realistic portrayal, given how exacting and unsympathetic Cal is at times. And Gabriel's attitude toward Cal, especially toward the beginning of the story, is fascinating. Equal parts lust and disgust, desire and hatred.
- Gregg captures a submissive attitude well--not just of someone who wants to be tied up and spanked now and then, but of someone who needs to feel entirely overpowered by his Master's will.
- There's an angle to the omega werewolf lore that I've never read before, and I thought it was pretty cool.
- I liked the two men together. There's quite a bit of helplessness in Gabriel (see cons below) and a lot of protective possessiveness in Cal.

- The ending is abrupt. Several issues are left unresolved at the story's conclusion.
- Sometimes Gabriel's actions are childlike and/or helpless in the extreme. I don't particularly mind this sort of thing in m/m books, but I know it annoys some readers.
- There are some descriptions of a specific sexual incident that are a bit brutal and give the impression that the incident might not have been entirely consensual on the part of both men. (It *is* consensual, but for readers who are unfamiliar with the submissive mindset that craves torture, it will probably seem brutal.)
- The sentences filling in the backstory are so sparse that they're a little confusing sometimes. I tried very hard to fit all the pieces together, but I wasn't always successful.

Overall comments: I enjoyed this one enough that I'd be willing to re-read certain sections, but it's not for everyone. There's a pretty serious "small, helpless bottom and big, powerful Top" angle to it, and the sex is quite graphic--enough so that it made me wrinkle my nose a couple of times.
