It Paralyzes (in a good way),
By
This review is from: I Paralyze (Audio CD)
This album is so good and unique showing many sides of Cher's versatility. This '82 project was released on a Columbia offspring and was meant to launch Cher back into the spotlight after a few disco/rock flops. It didn't do to the fact that Cher was heavily focused on acting. Good career move, but it caused this record to be a huge bomb with very catchy songs that not only eighties lite rock lovers would dig, but that Cher fans would adore. The songs have a slight rock girlgroup feel with the light hearted twangy rock tunes as "Walk With Me" and "Say What's On Your Mind" combining the new rock sound of AOR and slight new wave. Her best rocker on here is "Back On The Street Again" with signature sounds and that voice wailing. Slight ballads soar with excellent production like "When The Love is Gone" and "Games". They are much stronger then her "Take Me Home" ballads with A+ instrumentation and that fun sound that I dig. Cher's older ballads didn't have enough going on and of as much soul that was poured into them; these feel like they really have her heart. "Rudy" is a brilliant rock ballad with yearning vocals yet upbeat music. And the song "I Paralyze". The ultimate track. A quirky dance meets rock meets party polka in way with seductive words and sex appeal all over. I can't fully recommend the album to all because these melodies are a bit dated but they are all really good. You really have to love eighties music to appreciate this one while her Geffen albums are that badly dated and still get some radio play. Still wroth checking out, and a must for Cher fans. I think it's one of her best out of print albums.

OK, this maybe isn't groundbreaking work, but as a huge Cher fan, I love it. Fun to throw into the CD player as a little retro treat. Especially when you want some Cher that hasn't been played 100 times on the radio...trust me, this has not been played much on the radio. But it really is some pretty great music with a couple real standout tunes... Rudy and Do I Ever Cross Your Mind are my favorites. (Actually, Do I Ever Cross Your Mind probably makes it onto my Top 10 Cher list...and that is a tough list!) ;-)

I was looking online and saw that When Cher made this Cd It was one on the worst cd's she ever made! It was to be totally forgotten. Well There are only 3 songs on here that don't have a good beat but the rest of them are GREAT! If you are collecting Cher cd's this one needs to be in your collection!

This is one of CHER's best and most underrated projects. The year 1982 was a time for BETTE DAVIS EYES on the pop charts. At the time, most female vocalists with the exception of KIM CARNES, LAURA BRANNIGAN, SHEENA EASTON & JUICE NEWTON were being ignored by retail and the BILLBOARD CHARTS. This CD is really worth purchasing.

Yes, it's an album from 1982, which is evidenced by the cover. But the packaging doesn't do the contents justice. This is one GOOD album! It's solid, early-'80s rock light years ahead of what was being played on the radio at that time. Why this album wasn't a hit is beyond me. From the opening of the girl group-esque single "Rudy" to the synth-pop of the title track, this CD delivers Cher in fine vocal form...and performing each song perfectly. My only regret with buying this CD is that I didn't buy it sooner! I am not a hard-core Cher fan, but this CD tempts me to become one.

I'm a Cher fan, but not of this cd. I like the title cut, and perhaps "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind". The rest is what I dislike about 80's power pop. Loud, hard and insensitive to the ears..Cher is always unique, but has done better than this! Why didn't they reissue "Allman and Woman", and "I'd Rather Believe in You"?(this one is not half as good as those 70's lps.

Cher Does Broadway and I PARALYZE,
By
This review is from: I Paralyze (Audio CD)
Cher made I Paralyze when she first was on Broadway with Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. It's a mixed CD, but she is "good on "RUDY", "Games", and the especially brillant "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?". (note: this song is not the same "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" that Dolly Parton wrote and recorded. Two totally different songs with the same title). Update: March 2004: Re-reading my review in contrast to others, I have to also point out that "When the Love is Gone" is a brillant, heartfelt, power-ballad that touches the soul of any listener who has felt love and then, sadly, to have lost it. Also, "The Book of Love" is a fun, upbeat song to listen to/sing along with. The album deserved/deserves more recognition, as do so many of Cher's works, and no one should miss this gem. My greatest disappointment: only 9 songs.

John Farrar's production is great!,
By scottina sue (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Paralyze (Audio CD)
My main criticism is: Is the title song the only one she did with John Farrar (whom I adore for his work with Olivia!)? By far, the most startling and interesting thing on the album. "Rudy" is a good, Brill-building sounding production and it has good instrumentation. I admit the songs on this one aren't the best overall, but as all of Cher's efforts, there's always something of interest.
