Book Description

August 1, 1993 0961584130 978-0961584139 First Edition
Through poetry and testimony, Sonia Schreiber Weitz gives life to the millions of children, men and women who were murdered during the Holocaust. Sonia was 11 years old when her family and other Polish Jews were herded into ghettos and forced to live in treacherous conditions that often led to death. Of the 84 members of her family, Sonia and her sister Blanca were the sole survivors. To help cope with her emotions, Sonia turned to writing poetry at an early age. Today she teaches and lectures to adults and children about the Holocaust.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Story of a Holocaust Survivor, May 22, 2001
This review is from: I Promised I Would Tell (Paperback)
This incredible and devestating tale of Sonia Weitz and her family depicted the horror of the Holocaust and what it was really like for the Jewish population in Europe. I thought this book was very well written and the poetry all brought insight to what was happening back then.

This review is from: I Promised I Would Tell (Paperback)
I bought this for my daughter to read this summer and read it myself first. What an incredibly moving story! Beautiful poetry, vivid descriptions of the sadness and horror that she went through, yet extremely moving and inspiring. A very quick book to read as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ, June 29, 2002

CHARLES E. BUTTS (IRVING, TEXAS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Promised I Would Tell (Paperback)
THERE IS ONLY A RELATIVE HANDFUL OF HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS STILL ALIVE, AND I WISH THEY WOULD RECORD THEIR STORY AS SONIA WEITZ DID, AS A WAY OF MAKING SURE THE HOLOCAUST IS NOT FORGOTTEN. IT ALSO DETAILS HOW A PERSON CAN LIVE THROUGH THE MOST INHUMANE INCIDENT IN RECORDED HISTORY, AND GROW OUT OF IT WITH A SENSE OF DETERMINATION, WARMTH AND LOVE. IT SHOULD BE ON THE SHELVES OF EVERY PUBLIC AND SCHOOL LIBRARY IN THE NATION.
