I bought this for my husband to cater to his paperless crave. The feature he likes the most is the ability to use the scanner as an all day desktop scanner and pull it out its base to be used as a portable scanner when he travels. The product also comes with business card software so we finally have scanned all our cards into Address Book. We hesitated with other scanners but went for it because of the portability.

I purchased the IrisScan Express 3 because the 2 didn't work on Windows 8.
I was assured the Express 3 would work on Windows 8. After spending at least 10 hours
the stupid thing couldn't load up properly. I got messages saying the software
did not install properly, that some files were missing.

I e-mailed Tech support and their response took 3 days. Finally, I was sent
an url with the "correct" files to be downloaded. This did not work either.

Frustrated, I asked for a refund. Now I have to go through all their red-tape
to get my refund. I have to spend shipping money to send the scanner back.

IRIS--not a good way to build a reputation. If you wish to go through the
agonies of dealing with inept and uncaring customer and tech support dummies--buy from them.
I am done with them. Let's see how long it will take for me to get my money back.

Looking for a compact and easy-to-use scanner, I came across the IRISCan Express 3. The installation of the device went smoothly on a Windows 8 PC and recognized the hardware right away. I installed the provided software and scanned the first documents. Directly saved to Word, Excel, or PDF and ready for further processing. Also it is small and easy to carry between home and office...for the price you can't beat it!.

Let me start by saying I have no issue with the vendor that sold me this product, nor have I tried to contact them with my complaint. I purchased this 2 weeks ago and received it in a timely manner and it was packaged well. I immediately hooked it up and installed the software. There are 2 ways to scan. One is with a BUTTON MANAGER that will pop up on your desktop and offer you 6 output locations. if you use this mode, you are only able to scan single sided documents. I have searched everywhere in the settings to see if you can do a double sided scan, and there is no settings option to do this. The image that does scan is clear at 300 dpi on B&W mode. and it scans at a decent speed but processes it exceptionally fast compared to the NeatScan products. Also the file sizes are practically nothing. If you want to do a double sided scan, you must use their software READIRIS CORPORATE 14. this software does have an option to scan double sided, HOWEVER the software does not work properly and there is NO SUPPORT to call for help. if you wish to have help, you must go to IRISLINK.COM and open a ticket for assistance. Someone has contacted me within 24 hours via email only. they do not have an option to contact someone via phone even when you request. So you have to write a question, wait 24 hours for them to respond, then you write a response to them and have to wait another 24 hours for them to respond. So this has been going on for me since Jan 24th to date. The support insists that the error is in my PDF software, but when i use my PDF software and bypass the READIRIS CORPORATE 14 software then it works perfectly. I would use my own PDF software except I need to scan double sided, which this product claims it does. So since the only option to scan double sided is to use their software, and that doesn't work, then i must give this scanner 1 star because it is practically useless to me. It's unfortunate because the much smaller file size and the much faster processing is so appealing, but the processing 50% of a page in reverse on EVERY scan is totally unacceptable. And their support has no solution, and has since stopped responding to my emails. Therefore i have no choice but to return the scanner.

2/6/15 Update
ReadIris people finally helped me figure out how to scan double sided. it was a setting feature. However, it still scans like my attached document no matter which software we use. We now have the PDF software people involved (the one that the IRIScan people said it was their issue) and they are trying to sort it out. I am about to load the software onto another computer to eliminate whether it is my surface pro that is the problem and the fact that i had to download the software from their site vs using the cd with all the applicable drivers. But not knowing much about computers and software and things, i am starting to firmly believe i may just have a defective scanner. I will update with the final findings soon. Hope this helps!

Says it's suppose to work with Windows 8 and it doesn't. The software update corrupted the operating system and Tech support could never fix any of the issues.

If you are running Windows 8.1 DO NOT BUY and I repeat DO NOT BUY. They have a work around posted on the Iris site which requires jumping thru fire. After doing that and got the drivers installed, the next issue I hit was scanner software would die each time I selected the scanner. Long story short I did not get this to work on 8.1 but Windows 7 works fine. So this does me no good remotely since I'm running 8.1 on my table (surface pro).

I installed this scanner on 2 Computers--xp and windows 7--- I was never able to get a scan (out of about 100 scans) that was even close to the original, I mean garbled jibberish, no background color, small copies and Gigantic part copies, printing that was upside down and backwards, in no case was I able to get even a close copy of the original.

I bought this scanner because I need to sporadically scan documents and I don't want the footprint of a flatbed scanner on my desk.
I read a lot of complains about this device, but I found it works just fine (Windows 8).
The problem here is with the software. Not that it doesn't work, the OCR is actually done pretty good, but the user interface offers a rather poor user experience. You have to dig into settings and have to figure out workarounds to do many things, and overall you have the impression that you are dealing with a clumsy relic from 2005 instead of a brand new device bought in 2015. The software actually looks like something that is 10 years old at least. And the documentation is poor.
This said, if you are a tach savvy user, once you have struggled a bit then the scanner just works good. But for a lot of users that just (rightly) want something that works straight out the box with the least effort possible, I understand that disappointment and frustration may arise.
I had no problems with the hardware itself up to this point. It just feeds and scans good.
I give it 4 stars because I think it is a good product and the software issues only affect you at the beginning. But IRIScan really need to update it making it more user friendly.

It worked well for the first 50 scans or so. After that, it would leave lines/streaks across the scanned documents. It also would stop registering on my computer in the documents folder but it would still show the scanning progress like it was working fine... so I would end up realizing after about 50 papers scanned that none of them went through. The speed is slowing now as well. Terrible product and there are so many more in this category which have better reviews - get one of those!

I tried to load the software from the manif. site onto a tablet with windows 8.1 5 attempts all were a failure. Used the cd to put it onto a laptop with windows 7 This didn't load without problems either, but I could thrash through the problems and install and got it installed in spite of the difficulties. The software display was low quality with many options to choose from. I was able to get it to run, but I think the product should be left to the 3rd world to use, if they have the patience and will put up with such a low quality software package.
