Biography

80s new wave/new romantic synth-pop band A Flock of Seagulls was formed by Liverpudlian brothers Mike (vocals, keyboards) and Ali Score (drums). The band is best known for their self-titled first album and the unusual haircut of founder and frontman Mike Score - which has entered our modern pop culture and been parodied or referenced in popular TV shows Friends and That 70s Show as well as films… Read more in Amazon's A Flock of Seagulls Store

Editorial Reviews

Review

The quintessential 80s hair band, A Flock Of Seagulls, presents this collection of their best compositions and some of the most memorable singles of the new wave era!

Newly recorded, identical sounding versions of I Ran (So Far Away), Telecommunication, Space Age Love Song, The More You Live, The More You Love and more!

Special bonus mixes, exclusive to this compilation, plus 2 stellar remixes by industrial legends Die Krupps and Guenter Schultz (KMFDM/Slick Idiot)!

A Flock Of Seagulls is still a very popular band amongst 80s music enthusiasts!

Okay, so everyone remembers the hair, teased high and tossed like an ocean wave. Those outrageous bleach blonde locks have become a singular expression of 80s excess and one of the most iconic pictures of American music history, even parodied (hilariously) by Mike Myers in the film View From The Top. But A Flock Of Seagulls were also responsible for great swaths of the music that made the 80s so great. Unlike the hairstyles, the soaring melodies and unshakeable choruses of I Ran (So Far Away), Telecommunication, Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You), Space Age Love Song and many other AFOS songs are timeless, unfettered pieces of pop music majesty. This hits collection, featuring singer Mike Score s newly recorded, true-to-the-orignal versions of the Seagulls best loved songs, is guaranteed to have you banging on your air-synth while it transports you back to that indelible era when the artists were heroes and melody was their superpower. Enjoy! --Cleopatra Records

1.0 out of 5 stars Name of the album should be called "You-and your $$- Run", May 9, 2004
This review is from: I Ran: Very Best of (Audio CD)
According to Mike 'the ego has landed' Score former lead singer of the band Flock of Seagulls, this album is yet another attempt by a record company to cash in on past hits.

Anyone who saw bands re-united will know that Score's voice is now shot and the other 3 members of the band, brother Ali Score on drums who hasn't spoken to Mike in 12 yrs, Frank on bass and Paul on guitar could re-form as a Flock of C-gulls or something like that and still actually perform.

Mike attempts on the bands official website to distance himself from this cd because the main bulk of music was recorded for a re-mix album 2 years ago and the record company took the music and his (poor) voiceovers and did a new compilation album with them.

Give this cd a wide berth and spend your money on another good compilation CD. To hear one member of the band re-record and re-sing songs 20 years later and then grumble about the quality does this band dis-justice. If amazon would have let me post O stars I would have.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled..., March 17, 2004

What you're not being told here is that these are all re-recordings of a great collection of music that lose quite a bit in the update. If you're interested in the bonus remixes, they aren't all that hot.
So please do yourself a favor, if you're temped to get this, pay the extra couple of bucks for the original 1991 "The Best Of A Flock Of Seagulls" release. You'll get the great original recordings of some great music...

1.0 out of 5 stars This CD Is A Fraud, December 29, 2008
This review is from: I Ran: Very Best of (Audio CD)
This CD is a complete fraud. These are not the original recordings. It sounds like Mr. Score went into his garage and re-recorded the songs with his vocal range failing. If I could have issued Zero stars, I would have. Don't waste your dough.
