Biography

Every decade or so, a new voice emerges that is transcendent, timeless. In the ‘60s, Aretha was royalty; the ‘70s were under Chaka’s control; Whitney owned the ‘80s and Mariah lead the ‘90s. For this new decade, it could be very well be all about Jennifer Hudson. With her high-powered soulful style, the 26-year old Chicago native had already achieved feats that ... Editorial Reviews

Grammy and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson will release her highly anticipated sophomore album I Remember Me on March 22 on Arista Records. The album's first single, "Where You At," was written and produced by R. Kelly. The album title, I Remember Me, is based on a poem written by Jennifer and composed into a beautiful song co-written by Ryan Tedder that is featured on the album. Additional writers and producers on the album include multi-award winners Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Rich Harrison, Ne-Yo and Stargate.

"I"m excited about this album because it's almost like a renewal for me, reflected through the chapters of my life," comments Jennifer. "I've called it 'I Remember Me' because of the journey I've been on. I've learned that life constantly surprises you, no matter your plans. My fans have been so loyal, I feel like they have been on this journey with me and I can't wait for them to hear the new album."

Clive Davis, Chief Creative Officer, Sony Music Entertainment states: "Jennifer is the voice of the new generation and she literally soars on her second album 'I Remember Me.' Jennifer fulfills all of her promise and all of the prophesies that she will be on that short list of great vocalists of our time."

I Remember Me is the follow up to Jennifer s 2008 eponymous debut album, which featured the hit singles "Spotlight" and "If This Isn t Love." Jennifer Hudson debuted at #2 on Billboard s Top 200 Albums
and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts and won a Grammy in 2009 for Best R&B Album.

Let me just first say: "Congratulations to Ms. Jennifer Hudson for standing strong after the tragedies in her life and staying true to herself!" The success that she has gained in her life is equivalant to the genuine and deserving person that she is. With her long-anticipated Sophomore effort, 'I Remember Me,' Jennifer Hudson effectively delivers. Her first self-titled album was amazing but as Jennifer mentioned in an interview: "I had the opportunity to put ME into this album" and it definitely shows. With songs that are inspiring, encouraging, songs that make you think, cry, and want to dance, 'I Remember Me' is on it's way to the Grammys and will easily become a favorite for all who hear it. Although all of the tracks are amazing, well-written and performed with substance, here are some of my favorite songs off of the album:

Track #4: Angel (Produced by Alicia Keys. JENNIFER THIS SHOULD BE THE NEXT SINGLE FROM THE ALBUM)
Track #3: Where You At (Hit Single)
Track #1: No One Gonna Love You (This is the jam!)
Track #11: Feeling Good (Everyone loves this track from Jennifer's Weight Watchers commercial; By the way you look great Jennifer with the weight loss, although you were always beautiful)
Track #2: I Got This (Beautiful song)
Track #5: I Remember Me (Title track)
Track #9: Don't Look Down (Cool Dance Track)
Track #12: Believe (This is definitely the ballad of the album and Jennifer delivers, as always!)

Excellent effort with this album Jennifer. I cannot wait to see the many successes you will continue to gain throughout your already stellar career! Congratulations on everything Jennifer and remember the formula to success is staying true to YOURSELF, remaining HUMBLE, trusting in GOD, and loving your FAMILY, FRIENDS, and FANS! EVERYONE GO AND BUY 'I REMEMBER ME,' AN ALBUM YOU WILL NEVER FORGET!

3.0 out of 5 stars World-Class Singer, Low-Class Material March 22, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Jennifer Hudson is incapable of giving a vocal performance without something worthwhile resulting. That works in favor of the dozen tunes that rest uneasily together on the vocalist's second LP "I Remember Me."

A singer who is not also a songwriter depends on the talent of others to create material prior to the point his or her own work is required. That presents a double-edged sword for Hudson here - the tunes are primarily banal and unmemorable, with sloppy, uninteresting choruses and unimaginative, lifeless production, yet they also make her energy and investment as a singer - that is to say, her raw talent - especially evident.

The material is not world-class, but the singer is.

Hudson skews toward the bombastic, at many times radiating the aura of an over-rehearsed actor, but elsewhere she gifts the songs with pulse, heart and soul, even though they rarely deserve it. She has a voice capable of stripping the varnish off a foot locker and she is unafraid to use it.

She sounds best on the 70s soul/disco mash-up "Everybody Needs Love," with its syllable-bursting energy and simple, effective chorus. "Angel" is also above average with soldier march beats. It makes great use of Hudson's range and expressiveness. So do "Why Is It So Hard?" and "Don't Look Down," the latter of which bounces along with uncontainable energy and hard-won, rallying optimism. She shines, unsurprisingly, on the seminal "Feeling Good."

Songs with anti-intellectual, dumbed-down titles such as "No One Gonna Love You" and "Where You At" are named in a way that reflects their earthbound, uninsightful content. They insult the listener in how they pander to what Hudson's core audiences (supposedly) already know and expect. Those two tunes, as well as "I Got This," are mildly pleasing in spite of their lack of exciting, interesting choruses and poor lyrics only because of Hudson's gusto and salesmanship. That applies also to Diane Warren's "Still Here," a slice of musical high fructose corn syrup.

Many names line the production credits yet the sound is largely singular throughout - icy, calculated and absolutely devoid of warmth and passion. The sounds are fresh out of a toolbox, with hardly a musician in sight. Hudson cannot help but be disadvantaged by this. She would have been more at home in the era when Luther Vandross was recording his most important records.

"I Remember Me" is a flawed album. It is not unenjoyable, and it serves as a nice affirmation of Hudson's vocal prowess, but it will not leave a lasting impression on the popular culture or individual listener.

3.0 out of 5 stars Soul Diva in the making... March 23, 2011
Format:Audio CD
First of all, I need to get this out...this CD is 100 times better than her debut outing. Now, that we got that out, let's get to her new CD, "I Remember Me." We all know Ms. Hudson has been through some things since her debut and she has risen like a Phoenix. With this new CD, she shows that same resilience and strength but with various results. I will admit that I'm a music snob and I tend to like either the more earthy singers (i.e. Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Adele, Marsha Ambrosius, and Algebra) or the old school divas (i.e. Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Anita Baker, and Phyllis Hyman). Jennifer falls somewhere in between the latter mentioned artists. I will call these artists the commercial divas (i.e. Whitney Houston in her heyday, Vanessa Williams, Beyonce, and Alicia Keys). These divas have talent beyond belief but they want to sell (meaning: make big money) CDs too. They will only gives us listeners a taste of their talents on their CD efforts and they will save the really good stuff for their live shows. The results from this type of artist are what we have with the new CD by Ms. Hudson. Vocally, Ms. Hudson delivers the goods. When I first her the first single, the grammatically challenged "Where You At", I was like eh...but when I saw her sing this song live on the Oprah Winfrey Show, I was like wow, she sung that song. She makes mediocre songs like the Diane Warren penned, "Still Here" or the song "Gone", which sounds like a Rhianna reject song, tolerable. In other areas she takes us to the edge (the powerful Stargate produced "I Got This", finger popping "No One Gonna Love You", and the marching band with soul sounding "Angel"). When she finally delivers the passion you were expecting ("Why is it so Hard", the nod to her home town of Chi-Town with the House music inspired "Don't Look Down", and the gospel tingling "Believe"), you will find yourself pressing repeat for these songs. So, what we have is a good CD, not the best we music snobs thinks she can deliver but not bad like some of the junk that has come out recently from the big music companies. I will continue to wait for that all encompassing CD from Ms. Hudson but in the meantime, I got this....
