Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Soul crooner Brian Mcknight, the younger brother of Take 6's Claude Mcknight, sings in a silky, seductive purr. He has a sweet, elastic tenor and a well-honed harmonic instinct that comes from being an accomplished keyboardist. Unfortunately, he rarely shifts gears, and remains stuck in that breathy, drawn-out crooning style for most of this album, I Remember You, the follow-up to his 1992 self-titled gold debut. It doesn't help matters that his songwriting lacks well-defined melodic or lyric hooks; too often the songs merely drift through pretty but amorphous chord changes. As a result, his performances quickly evaporate from the memory without leaving much impression. Like his biggest hero, Stevie Wonder, Mcknight wrote, arranged, produced, performed, and sang almost everything by himself on this recording, and his arrangements are full of clever Wonderisms--layered synthesizers, electric-piano motifs, and high-tenor embellishments. Mcknight always sings as if he's in the throes of a passionate swoon and never as if he's merely having a normal conversation; thus we never get to hear the transition from one to the other. And just as women are justly suspicious of men who are always in the seduction mode, so are album listeners. --Geoffrey Himes

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Album that He has ever made, February 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: I Remember You (Audio CD)
If there is one Brian McKnight album you must own, it's this one. Sure all his other albums are good, but this one is the best. This was before his commercial success with Anytime. This album was Brian McKnight written for Brian McKnight...there was no Sean "Puffy" Combs or Darkchild production...just simple ballads that speak to you. If anything, this is the most relaxing of his work. It might not have Grammy nominated songs like "Back At One" or "Anytime," but it does have Emmy winner, "Everybeat of My Heart" which blows away the other two. This is McKnight at his best.

By A Customer
This review is from: I Remember You (Audio CD)
In my opinion i like brian's voice and he's very talented and for the person who said he is whining obviously he's not in LOVE be cause basically it's just album for if you are with your girl and you want to make her feel like she is special and let her know how much you love her or if you are alone sitting at home and your in the mood or you want to relax then listen to this album it's a winner .

5.0 out of 5 stars the best, June 28, 2000
By Gordon V. (Washington State) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Remember You (Audio CD)
I remember you is the best of the 4 cds Brian has released. It is full to the brim with soul and heart. His voice fits so well with the music it is hard to describe the way it sounds so good. He is one of the superior R&B artists and it is truly a must have. Get it.
