3.0 out of 5 stars Well represented
Another in the seemingly endless parade of teen pop queens, Mitchell fails to do anything here that sets her apart from any other pop princess on display these days. Her singing is very credible, and a few of the tracks are pretty good, especially the title track and 'Broken Promises', and the other uptempo tracks follow in that same vein. The ballads are what you would...

1.-I Represent-10/10-Pop,you know catchy from beggining to end.Very good effects and a fantastic tune!I love the chrous
2.-Broken Promises-9/10 First Single.A good pop song with a catchy chrous...i love the bridge,but "I Represent"is a definately better track for a first single
3.-Stay-10/10 Great Ballad.I love it,she sound soo sensual and sweet. The lyrics are very well writen.
4.-You're The One I Want-10/10 Summer song, with amazing beats catchy verses and chrous. Its funny. Is a perfect song to film for a videoclip
5.-A Place Like This-6/10-Another Ballad. Is ok,but faaaar way for "Stay"
6.-Wasted Breath-10/10-RB song or uptempo-ballad song with AMAZING LYRICS!!Tune chrous and very well sang.I can really relate to it.Best track on the album
7.-A Little Too Late-6/10-Another Ballad,a little worst than "APLT"
8.-I Don't Wanna Fall In Love-8/10 Yes,Another Ballad, hehe, but this is better than the other two.It has a better chrous and Tonya sings it with much more emotion
9.-I Wanna Be The Only One-9/10 Finally another semi-uptempo song.Is catchy and it has a great tune too.
10.-Turn Around-5/10-Another ballad,is just Ok to listen to
11.-I Cry Real Tears-6/10-ANOTHERRRR BALLAD...no more to say
12.-Should I Stay-7/10-ANOTHERRRR BALLADDDDD!!hehe is a joke.Is an upbeat song,is ok,but not the best on the album

You know this album would be better with less ballads.I love slow songs, but the most of slow songs on this album sounds the same and don't express nothing new, except for "Stay"

4.0 out of 5 stars CATCHY LITTLE ALBUM..., January 29, 2005
This review is from: I Represent (Audio CD)
I was really surprised at how much I actually liked this album, because I just thought she was a Britney knock-off when I first heard of her.
Turned out she is really very much more talented than Mrs. Federline and I for one, am sad that she didn't get a good pop career going. Truth is I bought the album for one song I heard over at a friend's house and I found it on Amazon for a $1 at the Marketplace, but I would have, after giving it an entire listen, paid full price. If you like pop music, I recommend this and am sure it will become your guilty pleasure. The title track is pretty catchy and the ballad "Stay" is a weeper!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tonya Be Representing!!!, August 3, 2001
This review is from: I Represent (Audio CD)
I found out about Tonya Mitchell when I read an article about her touring with Nsync, and I'm grateful that I read that article because otherwise I would be missing out. Tonya Mitchell's debut album "I represent is filled with R&B flavored pop songs and breathtaking ballads.

Track Listing:

1.) I Represent = This track is strongly influenced with R&B and has a good message.

2.) Broken Promises = This was Tonya's first single of this album and is flared with R&B flavor onto an up-tempo pop beat.

3.) Stay = I am a fan of ballads and Tonya shows that she is ballad worthy with all the great ballads on this album. This is a great ballad, however the other ballads on this album have greater horizons.

4.)You're The One I Want = This is by far my favorite track on this album and would make a great summer song. This song is up-tempo and stays away from the R&B flares, but if this song was released as a single it would definitely get Tonya noticed.

5.) A place Like This = This song is a great ballad with a strong meaning and it has a stronger melody than "stay".

6.) Wasted Breath = This up-tempo song goes back to the R&B flares but is also featuring a little Latin flavor to it. This song is a lot stronger than the first couple of tracks, and is probably one of the more not worthy songs on the album.

7.) A Little Too Late = A great thing about Tonya's ballads are that you can actually call them ballads with out worrying about the song being to fast, and this song is obviously a great ballad.

8.) I Don't Wanna Fall In Love = This ballad goes beyond the others and has a few R&B flares.

9.) The Only One = This song has R&B flares but it also has a great dance and pop beat and is a fun song.

10) Turn Around = Another ballad that is really sad and like her other ballads this one tears you apart emotionally.

11.) I Cry Real Tears = This song is yet another ballad but the beat is faster than that of the other ballads.

12.) Should I Stay = She couldn't of came up with a better way to end her album than by putting an up-tempo great pop song and the end of the album.

Tonya has everything all the other pop gals got like a voice, a talented writing team, and looks. Tonya Mitchell's be representing for all the pop gals, so out of them all, you should buy Tonya Mitchell's debut album "I Represent"!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loooove this CD, April 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: I Represent (Audio CD)
Tonya Mitchell has an amazing voice for her age. She has a very mature bold R&B voice. I am not one to categorize artists so I'm not comparing her to any of the young female artists out now. I like them all. All I can do is recommend you to listen to the clips and hopefully buy the CD. :) My favorite songs are "Broken Promises", "I Represent", and "Wasted Breath". I just hope that she gets the kind of exposure she deserves when she goes on tour with *NSYNC.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW--Terrific Pop/R&B album!, April 15, 2001

Wow! When I first heard that Tonya's album was recorded so quickly and that her first 12 recorded songs made the album, I was quite the skeptic. Boy, did I eat my words! I won an advance copy of this album and fell in love with it instantly. The songs are well written and appropriate for the singer. None of the tunes seem out of place on the album or fall under the categorie of "skippers." Tonya's wide range of singing capabilities is showcased on this album, with tracks like I Represent (my favorite!!) and Wasted Breath. I'd DEFINITELY recommend this CD to any fan of pop or r&b music. You'll love the music and fall in love with the performer!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good album. A must have for pop music fans, June 8, 2004
This review is from: I Represent (Audio CD)
I had no idea who Tonya Mitchell was but I heard this album once and that was all it took for me to hunt it down. Amazing smooth vocals, awesome lyrics. Great songs to dance, cry or even chill out too. It's also very easy to relate to the songs, it's like she sees inside your heart. A must buy! 5 star album all the way. She's amazing!

This is a great CD. I've never heard a CD that I can relate to more than this one. It's got a song for whatever mood I'm in. It's a great CD to listen to at home or in the car. I like listening to it while working on my computer. It's a great all-around CD. I wish that she had more CDs to listen too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Teen Princess, August 27, 2001
This review is from: I Represent (Audio CD)
There is absolutely no difference between Tonya Mitchell and Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, and all the other teen pop princesses. But if you like all of these artists then you will like Tonya. She has a strong voice with great dance pop and sweet ballads. The production is very well done and not overdone which let her vocals shine. The first single is broken Promises, a killer pop song that should have gotten her some recognition. Unfortunately the song went no where. Other greta songs include the title track I Represent and You're the One That I Want. All great uptempo tracks. She sounds the best on the ballads. Stay, I Cry Real Tears, and Wasted Breathe are lovely. Tonya is very talented and it is too bad that she's just gonna get caught in the mix of all the newcomers in the pop world, considering she is one of the best of the bunch.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't own it, but I soon will, August 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: I Represent (Audio CD)
This album is AMAZING, I haven't got my chance to go out and get this cd yet, but I have heard every song, and I must say that Tonya is a very wonderful and talented artist. In February when I first heard "Broken Promises", I thought she was another Britney wannabe pop princess, then I saw her picture and I realized, ok, she's not blonde, I guess thats a change. But a few weeks ago I saw her album in a record store, so I listened to it, and I fell in love with these tracks. "I Represent" makes you wanna get up and dance, it is filled with pop and r&b style, and delivers a very positive and inspiring message to young women. The Ballad "Stay" is so beautiful, and this is the song that will make you see that Tonya has such incredible talent. But the only reason I didn't get the album is cause I didn't have the money, but I am promising myself that I am going to get this album when I get the money, cause this is one of those I cannot pass up.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is Great, June 3, 2001

This review is from: I Represent (Audio CD)
I like this CD alot, I'm surprise that Tonya hasn't blown up yet. Her songs are pop with a lil bit of R&B twist. My favorite has to be "You're the one I want" it's really catchy. But overall i think the whole album is great. If you like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera or Jessica Simpson this CD is def the right pick for you.
