I find Wilkie Collins to be one of the most entertaining writers I have ever read. I have read most of what he has written that is available in print. So I was delighted when I saw "I say No" on amazon.
As with all of Collins novels, there are mysterious twists and turns and even if it is at times a little predictable, Collins has a way of writing that keeps your attentoin from beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who reads for the sheer entertainment of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why is it called I Say No?, April 15, 2010

If you are wondering why this novel is called I Say No, unfortunately, you can't understand the title without knowing the spoilers of all spoilers. I Say No is probably my least favorite Collins novel so far. It starts off a little slow. It took some time for me to really lose myself in the story, which usually happens immediately with a Wilkie Collins novel. However, I can't bring myself to give it less than four stars.

In I Say No, Emily Brown resides in a girls boarding school. She is young, pretty and is well liked by almost all the pupils. That is until Francine de Sor arrives. Francine, an heiress from the West Indies is a jealous spiteful creature and is a constant thorn in Emily's side throughout the novel.

Emily always believed her father died of heart related problems, but clues lead her to believe that he was horribly murdered. People around her hold the clue to the mystery, but everyone, including friends and family, go out of their way to keep the truth from her.

As in all WC novels, it was entertaining watching Emily trying to piece the pieces together about what really happened to her father. Be careful when trying to solve the big mystery. Some of the clues scattered throughout the novel are misleading! It's a fairly fun read, but just not one of my favorites.
