5.0 out of 5 stars Uh Huh... Genius!, June 18, 2008
By
tora_tora (Clearwater, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I See Red - EP (MP3 Download)
Uh Huh Her is an amazing new band comprised of musician/actress Leisha Hailey (The Murmurs, Gush, Showtime's The L Word) and singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Camila Grey (Mellowdrone, Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Melissa Auf Der Maur). Their playing and voices blend together deliciously to create a unique and addictive sound. With its emotionally-charged lyrics, provocative arrangements and ethereal vocals (which were recorded in Grey's bathroom - tres sexy!) I See Red is an innovative and ultimately triumphant debut.

Clocking in at a little over 23 minutes, this EP is bound to keep you coming back for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful sound for sore ears..., June 5, 2008
This review is from: I See Red - EP (MP3 Download)
Camila Grey and Leisha Hailey have been working together since early 2007 to give us an album that is fun, flirty and catchy..yet not conforming to today's music. The thick instrumental textures, ovely multi-layered harmonies, along with the upbeat guitar and electric keyboard sounds make it hard to believe this EP was self recorded and produced.

If you're into techno, electric-pop, indie, or dance music in general. This simple 5 track EP will leave you wanting more. I adored it from first listen and here is my take on each song:

1-"Say So"-Thomas Russo Mix

Full of percussion, bass, and electric guitar, this song is sure to be a single. It's not much different from the original aside from the vocals that sound as if they have been put through some sort of processor.

2-"Explode"

This song moves the album from electric-pop to synth-pop with catchy lyrics to boot. The mood is very sexual and dark. Singing about one lovers desire for the touch of another, this song is sure to make it into bedrooms across the world.

3-"Run"

Packed full of catchy guitar tunes, this song could easily be another single. However it may be a tad too autistic to make it onto today's radio play list.

4-"I see Red"

Oddly enough this song which became the title of the EP is neither of the obvious singles. It's a shame really that it also didn't make it to the upcoming album. It's an amazing take on a relationship where one lover is trying to reach out to another who is untouchable.

5-"Say So"

This is the original song. It doesn't have as many effects as the Thomas Russo Mix, but that doesn't make it any less appealing. It's a flatter version, yet still a great one

If you're one who wants more, luckily we have this EP to keep us busy until the full length album by Uh Huh Her makes it into stores on August 19th, 2008.

5.0 out of 5 stars like nothing i've ever heard before., June 4, 2008
This review is from: I See Red - EP (MP3 Download)
Uh Huh Her has successfully created an album that is beautiful and exciting at the same time. A lot of their songs start out soothing, and effortlessly transition into a new kind of rock and roll. Camila and Leisha are a great pair. They compliment each other so well, vocally. I would recommend this album to ANYONE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Indie album!, November 8, 2007
This review is from: I See Red - EP (MP3 Download)
If you like listening to disco, techno, pop or music with nice beats, you will enjoy this EP very much. The band has a smooth-flowing sound and the sound production is definitely unique. The vocals are subdued and harmonious, creating an ethereal feeling. The album is coherent and transitions well between the tracks. Uh Huh Her has succeeded in carving their own music genre. Kudos to Leisha and Camila for an astounding debut EP!

Song reviews:

1. Say So (4.5/5) - This is the first single off the record. This is perhaps the most pop you'll get from the album which is a good thing, imho. Very catchy tune. Both the remix and original versions are great. The remix has stronger beats and more disco.

2. Explode (3/5) - This is my least favorite song. The melody grows on you after a while but the other songs are definitely better.

3. Run (5/5) - Run is my favorite song. This song just grabs you. I like it more and more everytime I listen to it. The vocals blend really well and the melody lingers on and messes with your head. This is not very pop-py so you never grow out of the song.

4. I See Red (4.5/5) - This is the second best song for me. This has a retro feel to it and I like the variety of background sounds they used for this production. Like Run and wine, this song becomes better with age so give it a few spins to truly enjoy it.

-----------------------------------------------

Bonus Track: Mystery Lights (3/5)- This track is available only from iTunes. Probably on par with Explode as my least favorite. I would say this is really an oddball which might be why it's a bonus track and was not chosen to be included in the regular EP. The melody and flow of the music deviates from the rest of the pack. Nonetheless, it's still a worthy download.

My advice is: Just let go and let Uh Huh Her draw you in.
