4.0 out of 5 stars SUSPENSE - REAL PAGE TURNER, November 22, 2010
This review is from: I See You (Kindle Edition)
This is a hard book to beat for a fast-paced read. It concerns a crime writer who is suspected of commiting two murders, but has he? It is full of suspense, believable characters and a story line that never gets boring. In places, Gregg has the knack of inserting some incredibly humerous moments into his script.

Who done it? That's the question. You don't have to wait until the end of the book to find out, and there isn't one of those annoying last page twists. The answer has been there all the time. It is a satisfying read and besides being a mite scary, is a very well written book.

Why do reviewers often compare authors to Harlan Coben etc? No, this is Gregg Hurwitz, and he stands as an intelligent author in his own right. It was an excellent, light read and all his later books have also received excellent reviews.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Saw It (Read It) If You Haven't Seen It Yet, You Haven't Missed Anything!, March 16, 2008

This review is from: I See You (Paperback)
Gregg Hurwitz has written a Harlan Coben style mystery/thriller (at least at the start) which starts off very very well and at a can't put down standard of quality. You have no idea what is really going on but unfortunately a few chapters in we're told what's going on and the book actually gets quite boring from then on, so much so that I even considered not finishing it after a while. Sticking with it didn't change my opinion that I should have put it down either. I can't see myself reading another of Hurwitz's books, at least until I can be assured he can keep the quality up until the final page.

I See You starts of with its narrator Drew Danner waking up in a hospital bed with the LAPD at the foot of his bed looking at him like he's a piece of s. They want to know why he did it and show him a photo of a butchered corpse. Drew asks who she is and they tell him like as if he doesn't know that's it his ex girlfriend. He asks who did that to her? Their response, you did! They tell him he was caught red handed after having just killed her. Drew can't remember any of this, nor can he fathom ever harming her but then again he just had a large brain tumour removed from his head. They say he did it, his lawyers are telling him to plead guilty so they can argue the tumour made him do it and he'll escape jail or the death penalty. Drew's not prepared to plead guilty to a crime he didn't commit though.

The book would have been fine, in fact sensational if this tension was the whole book but this part is over real fast. The rest is Drew trying to solve who did the crime and why they framed him, and still are trying to. This part moves rather slow and is not too believable throughout many of the pages.
