Book Description

July 5, 2006
For paramedic Dia Courvant, each day brings the possibility of facing blood and death. But nothing matched the horror of the day she was dispatched to the scene of a terrible car accident and rescued the sole survivor-only to find her own husband dead in the wreckage. Now, four years later, a series of deadly car crashes has brought handsome detective Brig Hafferty into Dia's life. She's drawn to Brig, but can she trust him enough to tell him of the terror that stalks her? For Dia has received a message warning her of danger and death-a message that seems to have been sent to her from beyond the grave.

Lisle explodes onto the suspense scene with...a voice so original that she's sure to become a major player. -- Romantic Times

About the Author

Holly Lisle has been doing the pro novelist gig since 1992.  Prior to that, she was an on-again, off-again missionaries' kid, high-school entrepreneur, and once past graduation, a newspaper ad rep, a sign-painter/commercial artist, the "window girl" at a McDonald's, a guitar teacher for absolute beginners, a singer at local restaurants, and because all of those together paid starvation wages, she went to nursing school the next year, and two years later was an RN.

For ten years.

She paid off her student loan the same year she got her first three-book contract, and...well...she's been writing for her supper ever since.

She is active online, providing courses teaching what she has discovered about writing fiction as well as maintaining her own weblog and website, HollyLisle.com. And with more than a million books in print via commercial publishers, she has now moved to publishing herself.

More About the Author

Holly Lisle has been writing fiction professionally since 1991, when she sold FIRE IN THE MIST, the novel that won the Compton Crook Award for best first novel. She has to date published more than thirty novels and several comprehensive writing courses. She is currently working on the second book in her Cadence Drake series.

Holly had an ideal childhood for a writer...which is to say, it was filled with foreign countries and exotic terrains, alien cultures, new languages, the occasional earthquake, flood, or civil war, and one story about a bear, which follows:

"So. Back when I was ten years old, my father and I had finished hunting ducks for our dinner and were walking across the tundra in Alaska toward the spot on the river where we'd tied our boat. We had a couple miles to go by boat to get back to the Moravian Children's Home, where we lived.

"My father was carrying the big bag of decoys and the shotgun; I was carrying the small bag of ducks.

"It was getting dark, we could hear the thud, thud, thud of the generator across the tundra, and suddenly he stopped, pointed down to a pie-pan sized indentation in the tundra that was rapidly filling with water, and said, in a calm and steady voice, "That's a bear footprint. From the size of it, it's a grizzly. The fact that the track is filling with water right now means the bear's still around."

"Which got my attention, but not as much as what he said next.

" 'I don't have the gun with me that will kill a bear,' he told me. 'I just have the one that will make him angry. So if we see the bear, I'm going to shoot him so he'll attack me. I want you to run to the river, follow it to the boat, get the boat back home, and tell everyone what happened.'

"The rest of our walk was very quiet. He was, I'm sure, listening for the bear. I was doing my damnedest to make sure that I remembered where the boat was, how to get to it, how to start the pull-cord engine, and how to drive it back home, because I did not want to let him down.

"We were not eaten by a bear that night...but neither is that walk back from our hunt for supper a part of my life I'll ever forget.

"I keep that story in mind as I write. If what I'm putting on paper isn't at least as memorable as having a grizzly stalking my father and me across the tundra while I was carrying a bag of delicious-smelling ducks, it doesn't make my cut."

Cheerfully,
Holly Lisle

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, July 17, 2006

This review is from: I See You (Paperback)
I SEE YOU is the third of Lisle's romantic suspense books. It returns to the setting of the first one, MIDNIGHT RAIN, and uses Brig as a main character rather than a secondary one. (On a side note, it's nice to hear even the tiny glimpses that are included about Alan and Phoebe, though for a moment I expected them to actually make an appearance.)

The mystery and suspense element of the book is very strong, and one of the things Lisle's readers can rely on. She gives enough hints that a very, VERY astute reader could, theoretically, figure out the plot twists before the main characters do. Most readers, however (including yours truly) will figure out only enough hints to point them in the wrong direction. Instead of being annoying, however, this only serves to increase the tension.

The romantic scenes in I SEE YOU are also well written. They flow realistically from the characters' personalities and situations rather than being there just to have sex scenes. In fact, all of the characters are fully developed, and their actions reflect their personalities in the non-romance scenes, also.

I SEE YOU is less gory than its predecessors. The paranormal element is present, though I won't give away any details about it. In all, this is a very good addition to a set of highly recommended books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go Holly!, December 15, 2006

This review is from: I See You (Paperback)
As in all of Lisle's books her characters are superbly developed and real. As a former RN, she gives amazing depth of the world and life of EMTs and Paramedics (a love of mine because my hubby is an EMT). As a woman she crafts a hunk of burning manhood for a hero. Thanks Holly, for yet another wonderful leading man! And she spins a wonderful, edge of your seat thriller with a touch of the paranormal.

Now, I was shocked when the bad guy was unmasked so quickly. Not by the characters but by the writer herself. What's up with that?!?!?! I was thinking. But then, as the story progressed, the fact that you knew who it was made everything more interesting. I was trying to figure out the how and why right along with Dia and Brig.

Through the fear and terror of what was happening to Dia and Brig's urgency in finding who was causing the horrible car accidents a romance brewed. Not just a romance but a HOT romance. Holy cow! Talk about sizzle! I wanna be a Holly Lisle heroine when I grow up. *fans self* It was intense for the characters as well. And there is nothing more exciting than a romance that the characters fight against.

So once again I was up all night reading a Holly Lisle book. Thankfully her thrillers are paperback and average around 350 pages. I can do that in a night without too much trouble. It's the fantasy that stretches into two nights. *grin* Either way when my husband sees me with one her Lisle's books he knows not to expect me to bed anytime soon.

Though the first sex scene I read made me want to toss the book down and go jump my husband. *fans self*

Hurry - go buy I See You right now. Right now! I'm serious! It's a hot summer read for hot summer nights. Then buy all her other books and keep yourself enthralled all summer long! And then go check out Holly's blog - get yourself all wound up waiting for her next stellar book. Man, it's soooooooo worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars As attention getting as an ambulance siren, July 29, 2006
This review is from: I See You (Paperback)
"I see You," is the tale of Dia Courvant, a paramedic dedicated to her work, and a widow who is still grieving over a husband four years' gone in an auto crash that claimed multiple lives.

Brig Hafferty is a cop who's tracking a serial murderer--one who's setting bombs to cause wrecks. They meet at a devastating crash, about the time someone starts stalking Dia.

The story is as fast-paced as an ambulance chase and truly hard to put down. Holly Lisle is great at fantasy, but her mystery is some of the most surprisingly compelling I've read.
